Help...Stuffed around by car freight company

We are heading to Cape York in June on a club trip. A few of us booked with a car freight company to have our 110's trucked back from Cairns to Melbourne, but after having our booking for the job in place for a couple of months, they have doubled the price on us. Their excuse is, the guy who quoted us was new and didn't allow for the 'over height' of the vehicles which basically takes up two spaces on the truck. Original price was $1000 per car, now $2040 per car.
The frustrating part of this is, right from my first contact with them I made it VERY clear the cars are over the 2.1m in height which is the standard max height they work to, and that the cars would be fully loaded with camping gear etc. They didn't have a problem with either of these points at first, especially as they allowed plenty of time to spread the vehicles over more than one truck.

Anyway, they are sticking firm to their revised price, so I'm shopping around for an alternative.

Any suggestions for who to try would be appreciated.

There's no naming and shaming on the forum, so I haven't given the name of the company here........which starts with S

If they gave you a price which you accepted and have a contract then they are bound by the original price. The fact you may or may not have been given an incorrect price is irrelevant - so is the fact the person made a mistake - the person you dealt with is an agent of the company and binds the company to any agreements made.

However if you do go into dispute do you really want you vehicle carried by them - I bit like sendin g food back to the chef - you have no idea what extras will be added when your food comes back.

Good idea, but part of the idea of transporting them is several thousand less kms wear and tear.

Unfortunately the 'new' guy was slack in a few areas including answering emails and allocating a quote number.

I reckon it would be great fun driving from Melbourne to Cairns in a convoy of Landies.

But the fun may have worn off by the time you're back in Cairns with 3 thousand clicks ahead of you!
