Hi,
the Yanks up in the 'funny country' had a very casual attitude to tools.
One of our Australian troops had managed to obtain a large quantity of tools from some one and the MPs sprang him arriving back at Butterworth.
We had to photograph them, and needed two bed sheets to lay them out on for the photograph.
We found out later the Yanks didn't want them back, they had no way of bringing that sort of stuff back on the books apparently.
Everything at the front seemed to be 'C' class and wasn't tracked.
Different to our system, every tool had to be accounted for.

This is where your tax dollars go. I bought three sets of new F111 fuselage/airframe special tools at auction years before the hogs went out of service. Bought at auction for $150. Special drills, tungsten carbide tipped reamers, jigs and fixtures, fitted cases. Go down to Blackwoods and get a quote for a 1" tungsten carbide tipped machine reamer and you will see what I mean. Reamers and drills from 1/8" to 1 3/16". the drills were all cobalt 135 degree split point in long and short series.

Same auction bought (2) boxed sets ex RAAF of P&N BSF taps and dies, most new. $50 each. List then was $700.
