Have a look at this site
    www.slunnie.com - D2 Tailshaft conversion
    Slunnie is a member here.

The setup is the same as the Disco 1 modification, with the exception that the nose of the diff has a flanged bolt instead of a nut and washer. ( Shown in Slunnie's photo's)

Same parts needed - either an aftermarket flange or the flange and spacer from a later RRC - and a propshaft from an early Disco or same RRC. You have a Rovercraft in Perth, and of course Evilbay.

    why would you want to?

the elastomeric (rubber) do nut is there for a reason, in my opinion to abosrob any vibration, alow some flex between the prop shaft and the diff and probably another few reasons.

We use elastomerics in fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft for many reasons like the above, they are like that for a reason.

I think the above might sound blunt and rude, sorry if it does, not intended, just curious

    thanks

Because with suspension lift, bigger tyres and lockers the donuts keep collapsing.
    Cheers, David.

In aircraft there's a service and replacement schedule plus (mandatory) inspections pre flight so any issue is caught long before failure. The heat cracks and crazes them before failure and the cracks get filled with mud anyway.

Doing this now, does anyone have the part no for the kit with spacer, or just the spacer or the location of the page showing the dimensions for the spacer.

There's a kit no in microcat and the paper book, but doesn't show the spacer.

My 4" lifted, 33" tyred D2 would beg to differ after 30,000km

D2 rear angles dont change at the diff end anywhere as much as a D1...

In a D2, I would stick with the Donut and use Genuine parts only...
(BTW, there was a batch recall on these on the Gov Recall site recently)

I replaced mine with a tail shaft and diff from a D1 and had my mechanic fit it up.

are you not then moving the weak point back to the transfer case if going to uni joint?.

interested to hear as would justify carrying a spare donut for the odd occassion you might need to change them.

There's a replacement available from mackay rubber products, TVF100010 is the original no. Mackay no. DC6085.

Moving the weak point is a consideration. Will check the costs of replacement rubbers.
