Slightly off topic here but if your looking at a VW golf, get them to shop around for the extended warranty as our local dealer sells it cheaper than several others and while we where getting the warranty for the wifes multivan they where getting calls from sydney dealers as they where cheaper than everyone else and had one girl just handling sales to other dealerships.(southern classic VW, audi, LR , jag, ford wollongong, owned by a local)
As far as i could tell they where not in conversation as our changeover price varied by $5000 between local and a certain sydney stealer :o
When i worked at suttons who at that stage owned 4 syd holden dealers(chullora, arncliff, sydney and waitara) as well as western toymota there was no communication and active competition for both private and fleet sales.Chullora used to get the sales orders for a national vehicle hire company who would get them delivered to the airport about 2 mins from sydney suttons. But that was 20+ years ago.
Then again it would make sense to have a common valuation ,for a trade across dealerships owned by the same company, and it up to the individual salesperson to decide how much margin to sacrifice to get the sale. But you would need to be able to swap used stock the same as new, one time we had a bloke trade in one of the walkinshaw HSV's for 21k and another bloke turnt up 3 days later wanting to trade another walkinshaw HSV whose only difference was it had no tinted glass which was about 250 back then but he got 1500 less as there was already one in the used car yard.
