I hadn't heard of him UNTIL I saw the Blues Brothers back in the 80's. What a talent.
Who can remember his famous line in the Blues brothers movie???

Extract from Courier Mail, 30 May.
"Legendary bass guitarist Donald " Duck" Dunn was a household name through his 1960's recordings with Booker T & the MG'S & also a session bassist for Stax records, a specialist for blues and gospel- infused southern soul & Memphis soul music styles. Dunn also performed with rock & blues greats Muddy Waters, Levon Helm, Neil Young, Jerry Lee Lewis, Eric Clapton, Tom Petty, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Wilson Pickett, Rod Stewert and Bob Dylan. Born in Memphis, Dunn taught himself by playing along with records, filling in what he thought should be there. His bass lines were very unique , having no formal training.
Some songs enlivened by his style were Otis Redding's respect , & I cant turn you loose, & Albert King's Born under a bad sign. Dunn was also the featured bass player for Stevie Nicks and Tom Petty's hit Stop draggin' my heart around, in 1981. He made two Blues Bro's films with with Levon Helm." ROCK ON, Duck, a rare talent. I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food
A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

I saw him with Eric Clapton at the Hordern Pavilion in the early 80's. It was before the days of mosh pits and the like. They sounded great, I was about 4-5 meters from the band, and just about every band member was smoking or had a cig wedged in their guitar strings or somewhere. Times change hey!
Rob.
I read of his passing two weeks ago, a great lossBooker T & The MG's and Ramsey Lewis were my favorite musicians as a teenage boy and they made some great music
I'm also surprised nobody has mentioned the passing of Robin Gibb, another great talent gone.
Booker T
A definite oversight, the BG'S will be remembered in the same breath as the Beatles, Stones, & other legends. Came to Brisbane from England as kids, lived at Cribb Island, then Redcliffe. Played at the Redcliffe trots, noticed by a local radio station, the rest is history. At their first recording session in Brisbane, they were told it would be good to have some more songs to record to round it off, Barry went outside, and in a short time came back with the required number, just like that. Redcliffe intends to have a BG festival each year, hope it comes off. Even though they became rich & famous, they never forgot where they started, and visited their old hometown on a number of occasions. Bob
