I reckon the good sales for XXXX mid strength is because most aboriginal communities now only sell mid strength, and seeing most are in Qld and NT they drink the XXXX.
Every community I have been through in the last few years has only had XXXX Mid strength.

You have to be kidding. Every beer drinker I know would rather drink full strength but the fear of the breathalyser makes them drink gold or light. This fear is also why the pubs are empty. People now drink at home. As to drinking extra strong beers, I have been doing so winter and summer for decades, Carlsberg Elefant, XXXX Special Brew until they stopped making it, Coopers Stout, Moonshine Scotch Ale. Milwaukee 6% & 9%. The climate makes no difference.
Well there ya go!
I was gunna give you an A for effort until I read that you include budweiser as quality beer!:o Tsk tsk. Bud is the VB of the US, drunk by the downtrodden and misguided! Popular in 'college' frat houses too:p
I am a XXXX Gold fan, but include Peroni (heavy and light), Tiger and Redback (hefewiezen) amongst my faves and should be added to your list too! :D:D:D

It was a joke... ;)
However as you have said they have been disproven... and yet people still buy them!
XXXX Gold and VB don't win any beer comps but they are the 2 most popular beers in the country...
Toyotas outsell other 4x4s 8:1
Today tonight and reality tv shows are immensely popular...
Need I go on??? All of the above that the average person is not discerning and often does not make sensible choices, so popularity isn't necessarily a good thing...
Aah yes...........................selective memory, more common as you head north to the land of cane toads and moronic politicians with big white hats:p
What about the Brisbane brewed Carlton Draught or Cairns Draught ? Wasn't there an NQ Lager ? all feeble attempts to emulate decent (ie Victorian) beer. Are these the 'home brews' referred to ?:)
