old holden V6 came factory with faulty cams and ill fitted bearing.thats what appens when you rust proof imported blocks and machine them here in OZ.

new V6-well-75 000 KM oil changed ever 15K[comes out like soup] oil filter has chunks of chain guide material-change the oil and the timing sencors set a trouble code due to the chain lash--got to luv them.

PS-holden V8 always came with faulty cams-that's why the ran good with mild aftermarket grinds.

My boy has had 2 issues with his 2005 BA XR6,it seems they are common to all BAs.
Pinhole in heater hose engine to firewall,service item.The other was more expensive,the ignition lock fails wich prevents the anti theft system from turning off.Flatbed to dealer to fix,new upgraded BF steering coloum,reset computer,$1000:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
Consider an aftermarket trannie cooler if its auto.The seals in the radiator between the trannie cooler/radiator do fail,coolant plus trannie oil equals stuffed gearbox.Its common to BA/BF/FG,they tried to fix it on the FG with a engine block mounted cooler,it still fails,trouble is it has pressed steel pipes instead of rubber so harder to modify with an aftermarket cooler.

SWMBO still drives a 98 fairlane. Close to 400,000 on the clock. Apart from a transmission at 320,000 and the usual head gasket problem(which is now rectified using AU gasket) it has not missed a beat.

Our previous was an EF Futura. My sister purchased a Commodore Acclaim of the same year. Sitting the two side by side the Commodore was not a patch on the Falcon.

Don't know about other states but in Vic 8 out of ten taxis are Falcons, this alone says a lot.

Thanks for the warning, Andy. I have a separate cooler kit ready to go, (hmm, they are easily available, which tells you something), and the whole cooling system will be replaced before the hot weather starts up again, but I hadn't heard of the ignition switch problem yet. A quick search and yes, it's happened a lot, and there is a cheap fix that may or may not work and indeed the switch does feel a little loose. But at least by getting the car for so little there's some room for a big expense . . . er, hopefully.
