Truck, parting out, windshield, buddy, hood, pal, dude, tire, etc., are Americanisms that have worked their way into our language.
Anyway, every company has its peak and I wonder if Apple are starting to overdo it. At least Microsoft was always a bit like a used car dealer - you never really expected them to get any better!
Used to be a peeve of mine as well, but after telling people that I drove a Land Rover Defender, and getting confused looks from anyone who didn't know what that was (which, outside of Australia, Ireland and the UK is a LOT of people), I've since resigned myself to describing my Defender as a "truck" to anyone who asks.
Not sure what other word to use, TBH. It's not a Jeep, it's not an SUV, saying it's a 4WD means it could be anything from a saloon car to a tank. It's a Land Rover, simple as that :)
