Genie running @ 8:30 in a Big4 caravan park

Pigs arse, no need to run them in a caravan park on a powered site.

I can't remember being in a caravan where people play loud music at 8:30, sure you can hear the site next door, maybe the one next to that as well but that's normally it. I have had more bad experiences at free camping sites because the yobboes hang out there.

I don't particularly like caravan parks either but it fitted best for this holiday. Even when touring I still stop at a van park every now and than for perishables or do washing etc

If work requires a gennie than that's fine, been there done that, no option in most cases.

Big difference, A Big Diesel genset is a sweet sound, I dont mind the sound of those at all, could even go to sleep with that as background noise.

Its the horrible little generators that idiots take away camping, even the noise of 'quiet' honda 4 stroke in a camping environment is reprehensible.

The only thing worse than a Generator is the idiot next to us in the Cobar Caravan Park last week that decided to pump up his tyres at 7.00pm with a crappy little portable 12v compressor, after putting up with this for 15 minuites one opening of the van door & a 'stare of death' from my wife stopped him instantly. Why would not this idiot driven to the servo 100m down the road in the morning has me baffled.

Im sorry but most powered sites do not give enough power to fire up reverse cycle aircons to warm up or cool down the van as well as run the 3 fridges, freezer hot water service, Tv, half a dozen computers/gaming systems, the microwave and charge the mobile phone at the same time.

Why go camping if you cant have the little luxuries.

I always carry a genny when camping and when I've had call to use it the few people that wander over to complain are usually pretty understanding when I run mine.

Exactly - Used to maintain (and live next to) the gensets that ran a small town up in the Victorian High country - Licola. They were unsilenced units when I was there and could be heard from everywhere - particularly our bedroom which was only about 25 metres from it. I used to wake up if they stopped in the middle of the night...:D The silence was unnatural. Took me 6 months after we moved not to wake up in a cold sweat once a week thinking the genset had stopped...:p

Having said all that, there is no place for them in a Caravan park - I would creep up there once they are all in bed and permanantly disable it...

Apologies in advance....7.30 in a military environment? That must have been in the b echelon somewhere??? No you're right no one survives without 240v these days. Is that you outside Pirtek?

Exactly. Many RV's have auxiliary engines to run the air con. Many heavy prime movers have an auxiliary to do this whilst the driver has a sleep. As you say, most caravan park power poles will not handle the electrical load of modern RV's. As to earlier posters complaining about noise at 7.00 pm and 8.30 pm, well if you want total quiet before 10.00 pm, go camp at Coopers Creek. Earlier than 10.00 pm complaints are unreasonable.

I use mine to run fridge and lights and it gets shut down when I shut down or 10.00 pm if we are socialising late.

When I go camping, I have a couple of LED lamps from supercrap, and a single burner stove. I just don't get people going 'Camping' and taking everything with them that they would have at home...

There is a law in NSW that you can make reasonable noise until 10pm without the cops being able to stop you. My favourite NSW law is the one that you can carry a knife as long as you have an apple.. Had to search laws for a subject at Uni a few years ago, those two were memorable.

But why go 'camping' if you need a gennie, just save your money, don't by an RV or van and stay in hotels with the cash you saved. A head torch should be the most complex electronic device camping.
