    Ridiculous idea, or...?

    My son and I have a Series Three Cab chassis. Not a bad old truck. No reg these days, but was roadworthy ( with a little help from the tester's HiLux when it came to the decelerometer) two years ago. I have been given, I've been lead to believe, a Range Rover Classic, 3500 manual 4 door. There is a bit to like about the RR, such as the good chassis, the sweet V8 on straight gas, most of the running gear. The body is very ordinary, and lacks rear seats and belts.
    The Series was always earmarked for a V8 conversion, but that seems to be difficult. So, what about putting the series body and tray on the RR chassis? Has anyone here done that? Would the engineer, and more importantly Vicroads, regard it as the Series, or the Range Rover? Could be fun. After all, wasn't a Defender a Series on a RR chassis? Or, was that the County?

    The RRC is a 100 inch chassis, the wheelbase results in a bit of modding needed for the rear wheel arches. Seen a few pics of them on this forum. The chassis is what determines the vehicle ID and also the ADR requirements.

    Great Idea.

    I made the 90 in my Avatar and in 2 of the pics below by mounting my Series 2A SWB body on a shortened RR chassis

    I welded the rear section of Series 2 chassis including crossmember behind the spring mounts of the RR chassis, thus it had the series 2 chassis number still on the spring hanger. Long time ago now, probably wouldn't get away with it nowadays.

    watching a show on foxtel this afternoon " a 4x4 is born " or something like that and they are doing something like what you want to do i think

    I'm the son, how hard was the body swap??
    The handbrake at my house is already dirty about the
    Ashcroft gearbox for my D1 so the cost is a concern

    There is a most awesome series called A 4X4 is born there are most episodes on you tube but if you are considering this the series show from start to finish and has some very important tips you will need to consider before doin it, but IMO is an awesome Idea and what a great project for a father son team here is a link to the some episodes

    ive always found the hanbrake only interupts projects or purchases if notified in advance. ive found the best method to be send her to her family and take delivery when she's gone. if caught out have the funds for a worthwhile bribe. if not caught you then have funds for mor toys

    That show currently IS on Foxtel. Fantastic! Series link is my friend.
    With only two fiat 124 Sport AC's, a D1 with a dead gearbox and a garage to build, there's not a lot to do, and a project is needed. My handbrake isn't as understanding as roversmith's, and won't let me cut my D2 in half for a ute, so a Range Rover based Series Three tray truck sounds like a winner to me.
