Yep,consultants love them,and they are fantastic while working.

But an expensive and absolute PITA when,not if, it plays up.

Been around for years,wouldn't go near one for a domestic situation.Even commercial,i would have to think twice about advising anyone to put a multi headed system in.

Lose the condenser for what ever reason,and everything stops.

In less than 10yrs,parts won't be available,then once there are failures the complete system needs replacing.Pipes in walls,that need replacing,leak,insulation breaks down,etc,etc.[bigsad]

Been there,done that,not good.

Depending what you are doing,and what 'poorly insulated' means,is it Brick and plasterboard or tin shed?
Domestic or commercial,what is area being used for?

Going in blind,for best option,with a room that shape,two splits are the go,whether room is split into two or not.
You could go one larger split,which will be a bit noisier,and maybe blow onto people if thats an issue?

Just blew off any trapped air not much, just a fartful so I'll have to see after tomorrow what gives but it previously was only doing this ad hoc. It won't hurt them to check settings etc & then I will know that it can be the best it is. This time they can keep it for as long as they need it not like in one day out the next.

You bought/inherited a bus without Air cond? If it was still installed just think, you could run the diseasle all night to keep you cool. [biggrin][biggrin]

Never done a bus,but splits don’t like bouncing around on our fabulous roads.They break pipes.
Yes I know I have seen them on caravans,etc,maybe they will last a little while,but definitely not designed for that application.

Is it practical to fit one of those roof top caravan AC units,as that would be the best option?
You probably need two to do the full area.
Some insulation would help a lot as well,if possible.

The problem with rooftops is the intrusion into the minimal headroon and taking external area that I wanted to use for solar panels.
Could flexible hose be used?

I used to rewind motors and such like when the world was normal. It is very unusual for a coil of any sort to fail to a high resistance. Fail open or shorted turns yes, but then I do not know the actual construction used.

Does this system used some form of VFD for the compressor? I used to work on big SCR controlled variable speed drives, 800 HP and up. These drives produce all sorts of harmonic spikes that can and do play havoc with electronics. Is it possible that the drivers are producing outputs that damage the solenoid coils? Difficult to track down I know, but often it come down to basics and something overlooked in the design.

I've installed a few in several gooseneck horsefloats back in the day, but agree with Paul, they really don't like country roads.

Dometic caravan type ones aren't cheap though.

No, flexible hoses for this application wouldn't help,i don't think.

You could use splits and take the risk,as many do.

Where would you mount the outdoor units?

Rick,what brand are the EXV's that you are having issues with?
