I worked with a few dual trade boys in Canberra, and my old apprentice there is currently doing his electrical trade and one of his electrical tech teachers is a mate of mine.

I've suggested to our young bloke here that he pursue this, too, if work will ok it.

Many years ago,we had four V16 Diesel,quad turbo gensets in a high rise in the city which had to do a 24 hour test,before hand over.

The turbos glowed in the dark.

The noise was unbelievable.As was the amount of fuel they used for the test.

Those are the sort of machines I play with regularly. [emoji106]. Biggest install I’ve done on my own was to put 15 about that size (1250KVA) in parallel to run a Zone Substation that supplied 5 towns - all for a 2 day run while they upgraded the incoming 66KV line. A weeks work for around 20 hours running. Biggest machines overall I’ve played with were the 4 x 2500KVA units I installed and commissioned just before moving to where I am now - the load test there saw the machines drinking over 2000 litres an hour between them during commissioning. [emoji106]

The biggest gen sets I've seen were back in the 80's at Richmond RAAF base, big Oshkosh (I think?) diesels.
Can't recall now if they were 12 or 16 cylinder? Too long ago.
Insanely loud, you could hear them for up from anywhere on the base
