Fridgies repair them,plumbers install them then run away as quickly as they can, as soon as they get paid.

But yes,all Fridgies now have to have a Mechanical services plumbing license,in QLD.
I thought it was only for working on chilled water and condenser water reticulation systems,but it probably also covers heat pump hot water systems i presume.Something i need to check.

I am posting this here in the hope that "some" of the experts on the EV thread will bother to read it, rather than clutter up a thread that has nothing to do with it.
I have never worked on one of these, but did study them along the way, probably in the US.

The massive Geoscience Australia building in Canberra uses a roughly 100m field for geothermal heating/cooling.
The company I worked for there had the heating/cooling maintenance contract and it was 'my' site.
The pump and valve room in the basement is massive, and impressive. It was one of the first things I'd take a newbie to see. [emoji16]

A couple of buildings were done like that around here for the ducted AC units.

By the time 2 yrs was up,every buried condenser circuit had leaks[bigsad][biggrin]

All the AC systems in the buildings had to be replaced.[bigsad]

I built a geothermal DX ducted A/C for home in 2012. I replaced it in 2018 for a conventional Panasonic ducted.

We have a very high water table, so I used a supply bore and re-injection bore in an open loop config to run a brazed plate HX as a condenser. I tweaked the evap to run between 4 & 8C depending on the heat load and humidity, and was condensing at 21C. Had to re-purpose an EEV from an old Daikin as I wanted the adjustability. On the whole it had a COP > 5 and it sounded like a brilliant idea until I found I spent an inordinate amount of time dealing with iron fouling of the filters, HX and re-injection bore.

It was a fun experiment i control theory, but not one I'd do again.

Taken to it's extreme the patch could be used as a Skating Rink.[bigrolf] Obviously no thought at all given to the chilling of Earth's Molten core one day.:Rolling::Thump:

I guess that in most of Australia the desired purpose is for cooling a building, rather than heating. The units that I knew about where used for heating with the evaporator either buried or through a heat exchanger. The condensing coil was installed inside a duct if using air circulation for heating.
Never saw one, but were led to believe that both free standing "radiators" and / or pipes buried in the floor were also used.
I have no idea if they could be "reversed" to operate either way.

I suppose that the local geology also has a big bearing on just what can be used, such as the mentioned high water table.

Thanks Rick although I haven't got a ****ing clue of whats what the colour Green is really **** hot as is the pipework. I bet it got some getting used to.
