I've worked on crap like that far too many times.
Or systems with open J boxes, a rats nest of single single insulated wiring everywhere, BP connectors....

Thankfully I don't see it too often these days.

The best was a freezer cabinet made in the far East that used the earth wire as a switching wire from the t/stat.
It came like that from the factory.
Yes, it was an eBay special.

Yes(Homestar) we should isolate things like that, but doesn't always happen.

Rats nests of Bp's and terminal strips,i love them, seen my fair share, particularly on freezers.
They are even better when tracing a short somewhere

Not long ago i came across a Chinese cabinet, that switched a green active from the electronic controller, and had a yellow and green stripped wire for the earth.Maybe came from same place Rick?

The other week,i was sizing up a new condensing unit for a medium sized freezer room we have been doing work on for many years.Checking the breaker,it was 32A,3 phase, cables were 2.5mm.In a fault situation,if the defrost heaters had ever been on same time as compresser, something would have burnt for sure, probably the cables.

JC? My word Rick, you do know people in high places. See if you can get him/her to sort out my Smart Meter installation date please as the numpties arranging it don't appear to have a clue with planning & co-ordination let alone arriving on site with a 1.8m ladder to pull the Service Fuses located 5m up a Stobie pole "Can't use a longer ladder Mate, H & S you know"

Most house Service Fuse locations would be in excess of 4m.

Where do they get these bods?

Thank you my son, I was beginning to think you had gone to the "other World". No, not Toymota, the Pearly Gates.

Hahaha, no Des, no contacts there, I reckon I'd be rejected, but I reckon our JC is part of the Holy Trinity of Land Rover techs. One for the fridgies

Many years ago I found an A/c of a decent make Mitsy/Daikin etc, IIRC, that switched the neutral, which is illegal in the wiring rules, but when I looked it up, it seems to be legal in the equipment manufacture/import rules!

Mechanical defrost t/stats on AC's always switched the the neutral.
That was a trap for new players.

As do the three wire fan delay klixons on freezer evaporaters, another trap for fan mechanics and electricians.

Not to mention terminal X on the good old paragon.....That has them really stuffed
