Winter attire, just add a tee shirt, or unbuttoned flanny for the Downs or Granite belt!

All jokes aside rhat was my old neighbour Nev's daily wear, sans the tee!
You knew it was in the minuses when Nev had a flanny over his singlet, but he was still in stubbies and thongs!

What about this,we have a poverty pack unit Coolangatta,and the Hitachi split is playing up,its in the holiday pool,so they want it fixed ASAP.

So i said get the local bloke they use to have a look as we are flat out.Yes they say,this company has been doing our AC work for last 10yrs.

So we get the quote that night it is low on gas,very poor condition,replace whole unit only way to go.Its on 22,costs hundreds a kilo,Bla,Bla.

Oh,and you must pay the call out,etc,etc.OK,no worries.

Its a 6kw,outdoor is in as new condition as i kept one(got a mate who was a Hitachi dealer before temper zone bought them) and replaced it a year or so ago.The original outdoor rusted away.

I go have a look last night,run capacitor is shagged......
Had one in the van,20minutes in and out,done,runs fine.

Also drag the manager up there and show him the outdoor and ask him,does that look in very poor condition?

A mate who was the proprietor of a family wrecking and motor repairs business was planning retirement after 3 generations and nearly 60 years of the business operating. Land was quite valuable and was offered for sale for redevelopment. Much cleaning up to be done in preparation for sale. Many thousands of dollars of scrap metal went to the bins. Next job was to clean out the workshop and stores behind the wrecking yard. Lots of historic parts went on e-Bay and Gumtree and a couple of big garage sales. Tucked up the very back on shelves he found four intact US one gallon drums of Freon. He told me these had to be 40 years old as they had not done auto a/c work since the 1970's. sometime. He 'phoned around local auto a/c shops trying to find a home and a couple of fridge shops. Pretty much all were horrified at the idea of being found with the stuff in their shop and definitely no interest. Reckoned they would be denutted, pliers and screwdrivers torn from their belts and drummed out of the regiment. I asked "what have you done with the Freon?" "I am not saying but it was a bit naughty." replied he.

IMHO Run Caps today have never been as good as the olde oil filled ones. I know, I know, they had some nasties in them but they worked ok for years & you didn't drink the stuff. Not so the "foil" jobs these days.

My one failed & as luck had it, I had S/H oiled filled one in the shed. Still going years on.

But by jayzuz didn't they pong when the blew out?

Problem I seem to have now is not being able find a 3 pin FM plug to suit the comp terminals & every couple of years I have to replace the ****ty 90* brass spades. If I cannot find one I'll need to make up some heavy gauge spades with some tails that I can connect outside of the terminal box &/or extend the cover as there is bugger all space inside especially for 90* terms.

Any thoughts fellow friggies?

I also still have a full cylinder of R22 left over from when I retired but as you said, nobody wants to touch it due to all the auditing crap these days & the denutting process.
Probably 15KG, & in about 100 years time the cylinder will rust away & the gas will be released back to atmosphere anyway, but by then, there won't be anyone on a very hot & dry earth to worry about all that bull****e.
