Surprisingly,an old dog can sometimes learn new tricks.

So at this site they had 10 out of 12 not going. When we had finished, they had 8 not working so that's an improvement.
    The others need parts,capaciters,PCB's,and compressors.
They are back ups for the gas hot water systems. The gas ones trip out each time the power goes off or if there is a fire alarm, then have to be manually re set.
So the Heat pumps have been added to take over when the gas ones fail. They are around 10yrs old.

Quite large commercial systems, run on R134a,use a scroll Mitsy compressor with R407C stamped on it,liquid injection, de ice, etc.

They are surprisingly quite simple, and its easy to get into the PCB to see all the parameters.

Operating pressures are seriously on the limits for 134a though.

    Around 275 head,55 suction.

Came across one with a shagged compresser, seems the liquid injection capillary has rubbed through before and some clown(idiot) has soldered it up,blocked solid
Whoever did that has NFI what they are doing

We should probably get onto these as they are probably good work for winter when its normally a bit slow.

BTW we're seriously under the pump atm right across all branches.
All restrictions on OT lifted, Saturday work scheduled in for non-on call staff.

I hope it flows on to the rest of the working community.
    Gee that's good.

We have been a bit slow, had the worse July,August,September we have ever had.
Also the guys took all their holidays, which knocked the figures a bit as well.
A combination of different things caused the slowdown for us.
Not really concerned at all though, we will be fine.

It was actually nice to have a bit of a rest and get some things done around the place.

Things have ramped up very well since then.

Do any of you commercial fridgies who like to boast about the big complex systems you work on know anything about the Frigidaire rotary compressors used by GM through the 60's-70's? Are they repairable? Are parts available? A mate has a lovely low km's Statesman Caprice that he acquired from his f-i-l on the occasion of the old guy being unable to renew his licence. Compressor is VERY noisy and performance very poor. Now when new these gadgets could freeze a car to the point of having to leave it out in the sun to thaw.

Geez,no don't know about the old Fridgidaire.
Maybe a call to one of the Old Holden Spares places around the country would know?

R12 is probably the only refrigerant that will work properly in it as well.

The one in my old HQ ute was a swash plate set up, from memory.

FWIW,i remember Fridgidaire also having a little rattly rotary for domestic fridges, mounted on two spring swing mounts.

Speaking of Frigidaire. Sort of OT.
Never had Fridgi. rotary or sealed but I did salvage a Twin Cylinder open comp from a Frigidaire Domestic about 50 odd years ago. Cast Iron body, belt driven.

I set it up with new bench top cabinet I built using an Anodised Plate evaporator with flash new hinges & handle. Access was from the top & the front with a Vertical Freezer on one end of the cabinet.

Placed the Friggy outside as remote unit. It worked extremely well until we sold the gaff about 40 years ago.

Could still be there for all I know as the joint became a rental property.

The twins were a lovely quiet donk & really suited to what I used it for once I got the Cap tube right.

    Just sayin'

If you had bolted a PCB to it, just as a decoration, you would have been way ahead of your time.

But I suppose more than likely there was no such thing in those days....

They used a couple of different models depending on which car it was fitted to. Probably better to replace it with a modern type unless it has to be authentic for restoration purposes. First determine just which model number it is. Some of the more modern units still use the same size bearings and pistons. Bearings are not anything special, but replacement pistons may be a problem, as are shaft seals.

Not sure now Paul, but I reckon I saw a heap of them stowed away in the Ark's Ships Stores. They would have been the Standard .78mm ones. The boss used them in all sorts of stuff. HWS, Meat Slicer, HEVAC, Auto Grain Feeder, Conveyors & a whole lot more.

You went past the Elephants, left at the Crox, LH Compartment, through the door, first on the right centre shelf. Labelled "Future PCBs. Fridgies for the use of." I'm sure they were there then.

Then **** happened, as it frequently does in my life. The Ark bumped into a freakin' big rock on top of Mount Ararat & all hell broke loose & the Ships Store became a bloody great mess with **** everywhere, & I sort of lost track of things after that.

    Ed.
Wot, with trying to catch all the animals & matching them up with their partners & stop them eating each other & stopping the Ark sinking because all the inhabitant's crap was fouling up the Bilge Pumps The depth of water there is in excess of 5000m so I hung out with the Whales & Dolphins & their like, & bugger the elephants, they can't swim for nuts.

I am not keen to do that trip again no matter who it is for.

Anyway don't take my word for it, grab a copy of the book written by my mate Genesis. Chapter 7.
