I think I've got the cart before the horse here. Went to pickup the new compressor and dryer, only the dryer has turned up.

I suppose you will now have the audacity to blame Aust Post's incompetence. I thought Horse? Carts?

When I read that I thought you had mis-spelt Driver. Cart can't move before the Driver arrives so now you are good to go.

Just as well I was delayed this A.M. or it could have cost you a motza for a Call out although I suppose you could have had me changing Tyres on your Rig while we waited on AP, to save a return trip.

Don't they all, when things go tits up.

Poor bloody computers they get blamed for every little thing but the operators forget the old "Rubbish in= Rubbish out"

Half the time when their sites say 'Next' & you click the button, SFA happens & it just sits there doing Sweet **** all.

Sort of locks up & freezes.

I blame excessively long fingernails for most of this **** so bad contact with the keys. Have you visited your Manicurist & had yours trimmed of late or will you blame Covid?

Just out of curiosity, how did you determine that the compressor is u/s? Mine is on its second compressor at around 200K km, but the failure was caused by some idiot allowing it to rub on a bracket and wear a hole in the casing.

The evaporator however is another story! Including the original it is now running on it's third. And what a ***** of a job it is to replace!

Excellent diagnostic skills and superior knowledge from a talented and multi-qualified mechanic and me.
The first clue was an increasing temperature inside the moving vehicle, despite the climate control being set to 22°.
The next indicator was the formation of perspiration upon our brows, after the fan speed had been increased and the temperature decreased by 2°.
The clincher was a visual, under-bonnet inspection. On the top radiator hose, where it passes the compressor, was a fresh track of foreign material. The compressor was hot enough to burn my highly qualified companion's fingers, to which he uttered the technical term "Gosh, that's jolly hot!"☆
The starter motor lacked the grunt to turn the engine over. The compressor clutch was not concentric with the shaft.
Cold water and a repeated hammering with a pair of fencing pliers de-siezed the clutch. This allowed the the starter to fulfill its role once the air con had been turned off.
The diagnosis was the clutch bearing was toast, melting the compressor seal.
    The prognosis was "It's ****ed."
Following the experienced workshop formen's adage, "The closer to home, the cheaper the tow." We headed back. We arrived home with the windows down and a bit hot under the collar.
I can understand how this problem could baffle a a less qualified individual, but it goes to show, even a Land Rover is no match for a mechanic with twenty years experience in the Military.

☆Paraphrased by myself in non technical lingo.

Ok, thanks! I hope that your learned friend does not take as long to fix it as it took to diagnose the problem and write all that!

My learned friend has suddenly defriended me until the car is fixed.
I went to collect the compressor and dryer again today. It hadn't arrived at the branch but was no longer shown as in stock at the main warehouse.
    I await further information.

I think that's the building I have taken several groups of students through. Very interesting stuff.
They have a piece of the Moon on display, which can be touched. Am I the only person on this forum who has touched the Moon?
They didn't tell us about the geothermal stuff, but their live display of earthquakes as they are happening was interesting.
On geothermal, I read that former President George Bush built a house with geothermal heating and cooling.
We also went to Bath in England where the Romans built a whole heated complex under the main square next to the cathedral.
And our own Cooler Pedy is largely underground, of course.
    Interesting.
