    Leaving the fold!

Well after 2 years (and they were good years) of Landy series 3 ownership, I have sold up and moved on from Landrovers. My series 3 has now been sold so I have to say a big thanks and farewell to all those I've met, spoken to, sought help from and helped over the years.

It's been fun, it's been educational, some days it's been downright eye opening, but it's time to move on, I'll check in from time to time but for the most part this will be my last thread on AULRO. New vehicle, new forum.

So long and thanks for all the fish!

Crossed the English Channel to the land of Oktoberfest and saurkraut and bought a 73 Kombi.

Wanted one before I bought the landy but couldn't afford it so grabbed the landy which was an affordable yet still retro alternative. 2 years on, 2 wrecks stripped for parts and sold off, some more funds available means the dream is now a reality. It is still going to be an ongoing project and a running restoration (hey, selling series parts isn't THAT lucrative) but it is a great base vehicle to start with.

Unless I pick up a cheap landy to resell or wreck, I won't be back. Sold all the landy tools and bits I had too.

    Best of luck.

It usually works the other way. I graduated form a Kombi to 4wd's, would like to still have it though. Mine was a '69, first of the 12volt.

    Thanks

Hi Paul, sorry to hear that you have sold your Landy, it was always great buying parts off you. All the best with your Kombi. When i get mine back together I'll give you a bell let you see where your parts ended up.

    Cheers Jeff

PS if i see any Kombis out here I'll let you know

I've done the reverse. Sold my Telstra Orange/Yellow Kombi and now I only have Land Rovers to go away in.

The Kombi was brilliant though - so I can see why you've got one. Buckets of character and everyone has a Kombi story when you go to fill up with fuel or take it to the supermarket.

I guess for me, buying the landy was not a conscious choice but an impulse buy that stuck with me for longer than I thought. I really only bought it because it was the right price and suited my purpose, was an affordable classic with a heap of character.

But at the time I had been about to buy a kombi, except for the fact that the only one remotely in my price range that actually drove was nearly $7k and had so much visible rust including door sills and a hole in the roof big enough to fit my hand in - twice - leaked engine oil and engine and drivetrain covered in muck (despite claims of a very recent engine and gearbox rebuild - who rebuilds and doesn't clean an engine), interior completely stripped and roof liner hanging in tatters and cracked tyres from sitting for ages and despite this still had passed a Qld safety certificate/roadworthy that afternoon! I walked away as I'm sure you could understand.

I never stopped wanting one though.
