Hello! Every time I come back to this forum I end up having to say thanks many people and today is no exception!. Thank you all for your comments and offers.
Today is a good day! Not only is it a sunny day in Melbourne but I will be on the road proper very soon! :D
For I actually managed to pick up Tango from the "quarantine cleaning" warehouse. It's a real joke! They have charged 10 hrs cleaning and unloading at $70 p/h and its no cleaner than before. A few other issues too ie. the EPB now not working, damage to the safe where someone, possibly customs has tried to force it open, and no readout for auxiliary battery charge.
However, it's really good to have the car back, and Tango is looking good, but I will spend today checking as much as I can before the mission begins again, not only the driving cross country but also the Sports Trek project.
I will be speaking with all who can potentially assist with the Sports Trek mission. On the journey I have so far been interviewed by Time magazine in Mongolia and by the ****et Gazette, Thailand and will hope to meet at least one London 2012 medal winner from here and visit several schools on route in Australia etc.
So the route and which way round is the big the question?
I have just posted on FB a map of my proposed trek.
see Sports-Trek | Facebook
I reckon Tasmania is a good idea and then to head West in the New Year. That way I can later head back south to Alice Springs when it's a little cooler and head for the Snowy Mountains around May/June at the end of my journey.
I'm going see if I can get some help and support through some of the 4x4 magazines, and companies here for my project and if nothing else I will try to pick up a second hand UHF radio somewhere along the way.
Anyway, I hope to see you via Facebook if not on the journey itself.
Best wishes
Julian
Welcome to Australia Julian
We're all hoping we can get a glimpse of your beast "Tango", well, I am anyway :D
Best of luck in your adventures and cause.
Hey Jules,
Congrats on getting into the country. If you want to have an off-line chat about route ideas, etc... Feel free to ping me a note.
FWIW - Fraser Island & The Border Track were a couple of my highlights but the country is MASSIVE, so don't try & do everything!!! ;)

...oh and keep the guys here updated with your progress. I met some fantastic people and went to some amazing places, just through people I met here.
BTW - When it comes to beer, "Coopers Sparkling" is the one you need to look for. ;)

x2 on coopers. Unfortunately I can't drink beer anymore but I have fond (tasty) memories of drinking coopers!
In WA my pick would be Little Creatures. Give them a go too. :)
In other words, your tour could easily turn into a crawl....A tasty tasty crawl.
Despite quarantine's best efforts, here's Julian's car sat on my drive tonight.
