    1950's Enamel LR Garage sign

Anybody seen or know about one of these signs before

Regretfully I sold it on ebay about 10 years ago,
A guy from England paid me about $550 and about $300 postage.

I found it in a paddock in Whittlesea , somone had been using to to mix cement on, Still had a bit of cement stuck to the other side. Both sides were enamelled the same. I'm guessing it originally hung up outside a dealers ??? About 1m diameter.

Any thoughts ? (except that I'm an idiot for selling it)

Thgere was one auctioned at Cooma 2008, although I am not certain if it had the Land Rover insignia on it, I only recall the Rover insignia. I can't recall what it fetched, but I doubt it was as much as you got.

    Cheers, Mick.

Theres a guy at markets near where I live that sells signs that are reproduction of 70s aussie cars and the like, and they are made to look old. (made in china or india or somewhere) Might be worth getting some Land Rover ones made!

That very sign did go to a very good home here in the UK as I bought it. It currently is hanging up in my garage, I did clean off the cement from the back. It was March 2005 when I bought it as I just looked it up on paypal.

Welcome to AULRO Wayne and a very happy new year to you.

And to answer the original poster's question,I think from memory there was one outside "Annand & Thompson" building on Breakfast Rd Newstead in the 50's/60's (it's just a large hole in the ground now)they used to be Qld & Northern NSW dealers for both Rover cars and Landrovers also VW agents.

    cheers

There is a sign like this doing the rounds in Victoria, however the condition is not quite as good due to damage on the rim. I saw it at the Bendigo swap in November 2012, and again at the Whittlesea swap early December. Asking price I think $650. I will see if I can find a contact.

Chris that would be appreciated. The sign I have currently, is the one pictured, however it is not as good as it appears as it has had some touching up done to it in the past, also like previously mentioned it did have cement on the opposite side which I cleaned off however it is chipped where a shovel has been used I suspect. I will take a pic of it later from both sides.
My email is waynesmith78 at hotmail.com if you do manage to track down the sign.
    Thanks

I assume goingbush is Don Incoll as that is who I bought it from.
