$200 is not bad at all for AQIS. I have heard stories of where it cost people hundreds and hundreds of dollars, but they were in a Unimog so a lot more scope for hidden dirt I guess.

Is the $3K estimate for each shipping (so $6K together), or for both boat journeys?

You have probably already done the research Juddy, but the last time i was in Hanoi about 4 years ago, under no circumstances were right hand drive vehicles permitted to be driven on Vietnamese roads. at least in the North. I hope the authorities have relaxed that rule, because I still own a house over there that is proving difficult to sell due to the depressed economy and I'm considering pulling up stumps and retiring there, and would really like to take my mongrel Landy with me.

You lucky man a house over there, that sounds fantastic.

The rules have changed slightly for Vietnam, and there is a few ways to get a vehicle in, after all the Thai people have the steering wheel on the same side as us. Currently theres 2 options, write a nice letter to the king and get a special permit ( its been done before but is in no means guaranteed ) or go in as a group and drive in convoy behind a left had drive local car as escort ( think not ). So I don't think its going to be included in the drive. Its a shame as the road up the coast is beautiful.

Left hand drive land rover would be no problem, and would be fine in all the other Asian countries.

We have 2 options

Singapore/Malaysia/Thailand/Laos/Cambodia.

Or Thailand/Laos/Cambodia

The carnet is the biggest killer and required for Singapore and Malaysia.

Currently planning both options.....

Thanks Juddy. The Coastal road is very scenic as you say, but the 30 odd hour train journey from Ho Chi Min City (Saigon) to Hanoi, and even further north to Sapa aint too shabby either, and much more relaxing than constantly trying not to run over motor bike riders whilst taking in the sights.
Sounds like I'll be tracking down a left hand drive steering box for a conversion if I decide to go ahead and make the move.
