Mega 4X4 spares in Leather St. in Geelong still sell water bags.
I saw them on the shelf a few weeks ago. Don't know how big but looked normal to me.
I carry my cool water in the 12v fridge in the back of the Disco.
bought a canvas water bag in 1973 and managed to rub a hole in it on the first trip from Sydney to Brisbane. The end.
Someone's showing their age! I reckon they were common 4 or 5 decades back!
I bought one about 25 years ago, to hang on my first Landy (series 3 swb), it was usually empty by the time I wanted a drink, and if there was any water still in it it tasted like a weak rubber solution. Then it got a hole in it.
Hello again.
Amused to see this thread come back to life after this little time.
I suppose when I set up the post that I had really thought in terms of several decades or longer, but figured that some smart r's would take me to task for not noticing that someone out there still used one more recently. So, thought best to err on the side of caution.
I guess, and accepting the criticism of their performance shortcomings, that there were not a lot of other mobile cooling options around in their heyday - now that's showing my age for sure.
So, perhaps it's a bit like criticising the light horse for riding walers in the late 1800s and early 1900s when everyone nowadays has been hopping in and out of APCs and choppers?
Cheers,
That's a nice clear pic at the Caltex Servo goingbush, and looks about the time when "P" plates had just come in as shown on the back of the mini.
