    18/11 SQ/ NNSW Storms

    Everybody OK?
I know we have some members around Ballina.

With all the fuss, our SES group only had 1 official and 1 unofficial Assist Job. Lots of false starts and BOM watching for me, though.

We have some people coming down.
    Home duties for me, though.
    See you Saturday.

Ipswich has been out doing roof jobs all weekend, Collingwood Pk, Redbank Plains, Springfield and surrounds mostly affected with skylights and blocked gutters causing the most grief. Hail ranged in size from small pea sized stuff to reports of as big as a softball. We'll being cleaning up our side of town this morning before assisting Brisbane with their jobs.

    Keep the water up, Woody.
I'd rather be in a harness than doing reports!

I went up to Kenilworth Homestead Friday night with my two boys and the dog to meet up with some friends. to camp for the weekend....everything was going ok until the Saturday afternoon when I could seelightning getting closer and closer...about 7pm the owner of the place came around and told us to batten down and prepare for the worst.....we had no idea parts of Brisbane got hammered earlier that day. We made the decision to pack up there and then and head for home as we all had young kids. Well....got to about Caboolture about 9pm and the rain started to get intense! The old Defender footwells were about an inch deep in water! The lightning was insane as I drove along the Gateway arterial at about 10km/hr! Thankfully my boys were asleep, but the dog was having a heart attack with the thunder and lightning! Got home about 10pm finally.....what a wild ride. Lots of flooded drains and overflowing gutters around Gumdale.

Was 3ks from home when the hail hit..... Centenary Hwy to a standstill and no cover.

Smashed car windows and damaged cars everywhere, good solid d3 not a scratch

Got home to broken windows, shredded plants and hail that was still around this morning and 2 wide eyed dogs.

Talking to the neighbours we got off lightly especially having a tin roof.

Getting to old to play on the roof now (too heavy for modern tiles) so I leave that to the young and foolish. I prefer to mentor them from the ground.

Thanks for the hydration advice Dave, we always carry some squenchers to replace the electrolytes.

We got off lightly, althought we copped both storms and lashing wind, total of 68 mm from both, minor tree litter, but the tank is full now,we have 2 Border Collie bitches which freak out at thunder, and a pup, so had 3 folding crates set up in the house to contain them and keep them calm, today was clean the gutters day.

Good to hear Uncle Ho. Watching it, I thougt for sure you and Bribie would cop it hard!
Bizarrely, our average for Moreton region was 1 job each!!
Seems that people might be prepared for a change, that or the message about 132500 being an Emergency number, NOT an 'I couldn't be buggered fixing a single leak, I'll get the SES to do it' number.
    Cheers, Dave.
