How far up Cape York can you get a big truck (4x4)?

Think Unimog/Expedition truck size, say 10 to 12 tonners that might be 2.5m wide and 3.5m high....

Is there a track to get big stuff right up to the tip?

I am guessing you'd get to Weipa OK on the Penisular Development Road, but what about right to the top?

Edit: ... in the appropriate season, not the middle of the wet!

You'll easily get to Bamaga without a problem but the last few km (from a bit after the Crock Tent to the tip) might be interesting as the road is a bit narrow with a few passing places and overhanging tree branches.

And the car park at the top isn't very big either.

We towed our camper trailer all the way to the abandoned resort right at the tip, and even managed to find a spot to camp inside the resort property with a view of the water right at the tip, so yes it should be fine.
Saw several small truck-type campers up there. Some of them even did the Old Telegraph Track.

Peninsula Transport used to run Leyland Super Hippos up there from Cairns. Mrs. Holzheimer (Toots) used to drive one herself.

Edit:- And this was thirty and forty years ago when road conditions were truly frightful, not good like they are today suitable for tourists in SUV's with carpet and metallic paint.

So all the videos you see of 4WDs dropping into creeks and carefully inching across pole wooden bridges and generally getting bogged to get up there are on a separate track (CREB track?)?

From the videos, I'd be thinking that a truck's height would be the main impediment to going where the normal Land Rover/LandCruiser size 4WDs are being filmed.

Well, there'd be quite a few reasons really.....

But the first one would be Mrs Spud would be out and walking back home at around Tailem Bend, so I'd be doing the next 5,000kms on my own
