That would be about right :D
I recall a story of many years ago, of a particular country copper (or Shire Inspector, not sure which) who had a habit of following motorists on the straights...lights out. Naturally, one sees no lights in the mirror... nice straighroad... Lets go for it ! At which point copper would light up and book them. Victim is invariably compliant... as a terrified & surprised speeding driver usually is.
One night, followed yet another potential victim, and sure enough, up went the speed, over the limit they went, On with the lights & music..... and at around 80 mph (Long time ago, remember) "victim" pulls a handbrake 180, and lights up copper with several 100W spotties whilst travelling backwards.... Copper panics and goes sideways through a fence and into the paddock. Rally driver admonishes said plod about the error of his ways, then decamps the scene in the same direction and velocity...
Apparantly, he never did it again.
With regards to the OP, as with all stories there are two sides. The media and local pollies can smell out a good story but is it the correct version of the events as they transpired. I hope that this one goes to court so that the true story comes out and it is not made to go away by media pressure.
As for the Mayor, remember this is the head of a council that was happy to book people for parking breaches using the city's network of security cameras. When the media found out he then blamed his employees. This is the same camera network that fails to see druggies shooting up in kids parks or vandals and thugs on the main bridge in town.
I'll back the police on this one.

Well, it made "Sunrise" again a few minutes ago 7.15am Qld time (1 hour and 50 yrs behind the rest of eastern Aust.) :p
Sorry But I disagree with everything you have written here.As V8Ian has said, Paul ****ale is an all round good guy.He is passionate about Ipswich and is very popular with it's constituents,a recent survey proved this. Compared to a few years ago, the camera system has cleaned up what was a big problem in Ipswich. This system has been studied and adopted by many councils over the state. The latest is the Gold Coast where it is being used to great effect. Nuff said from me.
That is a sad state of affairs, talk about Scrooge. Unless these decorations were obscuring number plates or lights or something there should not have been an issue. Even then, what is wrong with just pulling the bloke up and removing the offending decoration? I hope Father Christmas drops a turd down that coppers chimney.
