    vehicle inspections

    Recently I have had a look at a few vehicles on behalf of other forum members. Although Digger's new fender was pretty easy (it's white, it's new and it is still in the dealers yard), I got to thinking it might help if a check list was available for this type of thing.

    I have limited LR knowledge, but there is tons of know how in the heads of the greater AuLRO family. Could a "tick & flick" type check list be composed for the various models with info on what specifics to look for and what tests/checks can be done by the not-so technical types.

    This could be held as a downloadable file (that could be printed locally) in "The Good Oil" section. If someone needs to check out a Defender with a 4BD1 in it (for example), then the relevant pages could be printed off and used to assist in the inspection.

    I have no idea about how detailed this should/needs to be and what sub sections should be included, so I thought I would run the idea up the flag pole and see who salutes it and who shoots it down .

    That sounds like a very usefull idea, and it would make a good addition to the site.

    I guess it would need to be very carefully worded (and not wanting to put a damper on anything) from a liability point of view. i.e. you go and inspect, using a form hosted on aulro, and miss something costing the new owner a fortune.......

    When I get back I'lll kick it with the check list from the EMEI.

    Vehicle inspections are like buh tracking, you dont know what you're looking for till you find a starting point and then you just follow where that leads you.

    I thought about that and there are opinions and recommendations in The Good Oil already for various things. Users would need to accept that any arrangements would be between the individuals and not AuLRO, just like the Markets section.

    hey great idea

    re the liability issues, i would say that we don't have a crystal ball or xray vision. i take each inspection i do as the vehicle is in this condition, on this day. you'd have to a bit harsh to hold someone responsible for something deliberately hidden by the seller or 'just about to fail' unless of course the obvious signs are there and you miss them.

    Unless you were paying for a professional inspection, surely any other would be a pre-inspection to determine the worthiness of travel for a personal or professional inspection.

    The inspection is on a "mate looking at it" level,
    no guarantees no promises, a checklist will help that though magnificently

    it also gives the potential purchaser the knowledge to continue negotiations or if seems bad may discontinue negotiations without travelling 100's + of kms for duds.

    Im all for it but if its a concern then add a disclaimer.

    I'd think these with categories/sections,
    Body,
    trim,
    chassis/suspension,
    motor and mechanicals,
    accessories etc
    a brief desc (could include a piccie or two) of what to look for , known faults or weak points etc... in each section I think a two or three page checklist would be very very helpful, and I believe would be spread across the world like wildfire once discovered!!

    (also helpful for newbies or people "changing models" to check themselves)
