I expect that once Afghanistan becomes a popular tourist destination the statistics would change somewhat.
At any given point in time, somewhere in the world someone is working on a Land-Rover.

WOW only 50, not surprising when you go to an EX USA RR base, most of the girls are Chinese anyway. the Mafia style corruption is backed up by the Russian expats who have taken up residence.

Quite simple if you wish or are stupid enough to go to such a dump of a place. a place that has evolved simply to provide what western tourists want, ( supply and demand) with Zero understanding or interest for the local customs or laws. then what do you expect. what is int written is how many girls are killed each year by western tourists, or how many cops are killed by western tourists.
If aussies want to go there they are actually quite stupid. Kanganarbury ( bridge over the river Kwai) or Ubon Ratchatani, etc are much nicer places.

Why don't they advertise that in the travel brochures?
The information of this nature is usually listed on the Government's Smartraveller website (link below)

Thailand | Travel advice | Smartraveller: The Australian Government's travel advisory and consular assistance service

If you flick through the safety and security & travel tabs, examples of the common scams are listed, including this little gem that I could see myself falling prey to

There have been reports that shop attendants at duty-free shops in international airports have added extra items to bags at checkout counters or not charged the full amount for items purchased. Travellers have then been accused of shoplifting after leaving the shop. There are substantial penalties for shoplifting including fines and imprisonment.
Reading the site, most serious injuries are either due to full moon parties or motor vehicle accidents.
