What did he add?
The only thing I could imagine it would need would be a suspension lift.

Seriously on paper they are the goods, there is two up here and off the floor they are junk, the ride is really bad,as bad as a troopy and offroad the ramp over angle is worse than an Evoque and they lift a wheel and stop through poor flex over ground that a stock LR would walk over easily. Both have aftermarket suspension and both have aftermarket wheels/tyres,they need both.I've mentioned in other threads about the old D1 I fixed up,that thing walked without a hickup over a motorcycle track that stopped both the Rubicon and 200 series, apparently the Rubicon must be able to drive the rubicon, can't see it happening. Pat
They are a good base though.
Double diff locks, decent diffs at that (D44's)
4:1 low range, and you can get more flex out of the four link front end than the Rover radius arms with a little work.
The long wheel base version is miles too long though, as you said the ramp over is a joke.
They need a 'tweener' wb around 104" IMO.
I bought the current one from Barbagallo. Bullbar on it was from ARB in Osborne Park, all other accessories (including some still to be installed) from Lifestyle 4WD in Morley. Best place in town for Landrover accessories and excellent service.
I the past, I have dealt with Jordan Rovertech for parts and some minor repairs (replaced clutch master & slave cylinders) on my D2 and D1 before that - have always found Kevin there excellent wealth of knowledge and provides an exceptional service.
Best way to convince your wife - get her to test drive both the Prado 150 and a Disco 4. Guaranteed after stepping out of the Prado and into the Disco, she won't want to get back in the Prado. If you can, take them both out for a bit of a run on a dirt road. They really are chalk and cheese. Disco takes a little getting used to around town for some people because the indicator stalk is on the "wrong side" of the steering wheel - but that's easy to get used to.
Last week when I was driving up here from Perth, the highway was closed between Southern Cross and Coolgardie due to a cyanide tanker rollover. Had been closed since 2:00am Saturday morning and was going to be open until at least 8:00pm Saturday night according to cops in the Cross - and every time they got an update, the time was getting pushed back even more. So I took off south from the Cross to Forrestania and then across to Norseman - an extra 400km for me and almost all of it on dirt - but in the Disco it was no different to driving up the bitumen except for one slow section for about 20km where the road was a bit soft down near Bounty Gold Mine. In a Prado - I reckon I'd have been choking on the dust after about the first couple of hours. :ohyes:
So how do you find Hedland anyway. Every time I go up there, I always think that the best thing I like about the place is the view in the rear view mirror on the way out. :p
Nah - only joking. I used to think the same about Kalgoorlie. Any town is what you make of it. I guess the main reason that I don't like spending time in Hedland is because I don't know anyone up there. I've only ever been up there for work - last trip was to take a bloke up to hospital from our site near Nullagine - Newman's much closer, but the road was under water at the Fortescue bridge. As it was, I only just made it across the Coongan River just north of Marble Bar (bloody Prado started to float - good thing it wasn't flowing too fast at the time).
I'd say go the D4, try for an ex-demo and make it clear you want to drive one away if the price is right.
On the other hand, if you're looking at the Jeep, why not consider the Defender?
- Old school charm
- Better resale
- DIY servicing
- Will outlast anything else as a long term "keeper"
- Women look better in a Defender
We didn't get to test drive the D4 as "she" wanted to look at the new prado first:mad::mad::mad:. When we did get to the landrover they wern't to friendly to us:(. I guess they figured we could not afford it or the missus was giving of the "I still want a prado" vibe:angel: anyhow she did agree you could not realy compare the 2 as the disco was far better. but was to expencive. I guess if the salesman was a bit more open he might of got a sale but not this time. We are down in vic at the moment so i might go to the dealer in perth some time when we get back.
on another note we went looking at jeeps and pajero's and have just come back. jeep are a total no as they look crap. The pajero was like the prado nice and nice ish to drive but still have that plastic confort. however the pajero seem to be on the cheeper side of things which delighted my accountant missus:angel::p. if it was between the pajero and the prado i would pick the pajero but im still holding out for the disco;););)
Yea only thing good about hedland is the road out of hedland:p
na it's not that bad but it's far from good either but that conversation would end up in the cantina so wont be going there :wasntme:
If its the wife's car...
