    insurance question regarding mechanical damage

Had an interesting discussion the other night about car insurance,Basically if there was an engine malfunction resulting in a fire that caused the car to be a right off how would the insurance look at it.One would think on one hand that if it is a mechanical fault it wouldn't be claimable, were is the line drawn.

That is covered, at least with some insurance companies. My brothers Subaru once caught fire due to a fuel line splitting. Burnt the engine bay - all the wiring, bonnet and some other panels wrecked and insurance paid for the entire repair.

Also, if you can prove negligence from a mechanic where you have had a repair done, you could claim on there insurance.

Okay so mechanical failure [fuel line] caused damage to other parts of the vehicle.is it just fire damage that is covered,What about for example if a prop shaft fails and takes out the transfer case as has happened to a lot of disco 2 on here.
