Absolutely, we have seen them off the beach too. I cringe whenever I see people in the seawater up there.

Probably got something to do with the late or lack of wet season up here around the north but the stingers have been conspicuous by their absence this year. Haven't even heard of any reports around the Mackay area. Normally the box jellyfish are prolific by this time of year. Hopefully the big willy willys will be as scarce.

When we first moved up to where we are now in 82, we were told to watch out for stingers on the ocean beach at Bribie Is not only the usual Bluebottles (come in with a N.Easter),but also beware of the Blue-Ringed Octopus that inhabit Toorbul Point (now Sandstone Point) then in about 84 there were several "Box Jelly Fish" later named "Irukandji" and Portuguese-Man of War also found by local professional beach fishermen in their nets.

I hope that we don't get the Lybinga blooms in the Passage this year.

That was when Bribie was a sleepy/friendly little Island of about 5000/6000 inhabitants

    cheers
