    Irukandji at Fraser?

    Listening to the ABC News this morning, the presenter said it was confirmed that two people stung at Fraser were stung by the dreaded Irukandji. Haven't heard it confirmed anywhere else, hope they were wrong, Bob
    Jellyfish stings land two in hospital

    Two people have been hospitalised in two days after being stung by jellyfish off Fraser Island in south-east Queensland.
    Two men were stung late yesterday afternoon while swimming on the western side of the island.
    A 40-year-old developed breathing difficulties after being stung on the arm.
    He was flown to nearby Hervey Bay hospital in a stable condition.
    His friend was treated at the scene for stings to the arm and neck.
    A five year-old boy also had to be hospitalised after being stung on New Year's Day while swimming in the same area.
    Authorities cannot confirm if the jellyfish were the potentially deadly irukandji, but they are urging swimmers to take care.
    I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

    Technically possible... Irukandji require water temp above 25 degrees normally. The water temperature at Fraser is currently 26...
    Still a long way to travel for the little buggers.

    I dont think I ever go swimming on the fraser coast, plenty of lakes for that

    Heard that , interesting, especially as Dr Gershwin is a recognised specialist in this area, Bob

    It has always been that you can fluke a lot of tropical fish at times from Fraser.So this happening does not surprise me but I hope the little buggers go back home in a hurry.As a kid living in Yeppoon in Central Queensland, we had one child killed by a box jellyfish and another hit by a Portuguese - Man - of war.The man of war stings and scars were horrendous and he still has them.

    An untie of mine had a run in with a box jelly fish on the main beach at yeppoon.......right at the end if the beach, pretty sure that is where the hospital is??

    On my first trip to Fraser in 91 my mated and I were swimming in the surf every day as part of our recovery from the previous nights drinks......

    On about day three we were stopped by some pro fisherman indicating that they have been fishing for sharks all week off the beach.....we took there advice and didn't swim anymore
