Unhappy Fires here are not looking good

Our fire siren went of about a half hour ago. Selby now seems to be in a spot of trouble. People are being evacuated. We are only a few K`s from Selby. If the wind is in the wrong direction for us then we will be also in a spot of trouble. Hopefully it is all kept to a minor fire.

As much as I don't wish to say this but this weather pattern in south east Queensland is much the same as in Dec./Jan. 1973/74.On Christmas Day 1973 we ,in Ipswich, had 112F(44C) that was in my mothers kitchen. Then on the Australia Day weekend (Jan.26) the heavens opened and we had 24inches of rain in 24 hours ...hence the '74 floods where 8000 homes in Brisbane and 6000 homes in Ipswich were inundated. Also Darwin was wiped off the map by Cyclone Tracey on Christmas Eve 1973.Scarey Indeed.

    HAll, Glad to hear.

Disco44, we are getting the heat, sure, but evidence indicates neutral to El Níno cycle. SOI is right down, not within .308 distance of '74 or '10-'11.

Granted there are a few interesting Low pressure systems around, but I don't expect anything to come of them for us in SEQ. (touches head)
    Cheers, Dave.

Trying not to be sarcastic Dave but how long has it been that the weather bureau ( with its so called sophisticated equipment) been right.IMHO not very often ,they have 2 bob each way.
    Cheers,
    John.
