Spudfan, a man after my own heart. Good on you as most would think, na to much hassle. Bet the tootsies were a bit cool for lunch.
I left my daughter to school at 8.55am this morning. At 9.15am I was parked up. By 9.30am I was geared up and underway.

Splendid...
I got some funny looks when I turned up at work on Sat after we had just had a dump of snow. Although I own 4x 4x4s, I chose to use a 2WD to drive the 60 miles in.

Love the snow!! I drove over the alps from Italy to Austria in a blizzard once, had an old rear wheel drive BMW with normal UK tyres and did not dare stop to put the snow chains on in case we could not get going again, only had one pair and could not decide if it was better to have drive or steering, every hairpin bend was a roller coaster ride, coming down the other side was a white nuckle ride just hoping we would stop in time, probably not the cleverest thing we have done but looking back probably one of the best driving trips. I would love to d oit again in my defender... in the mean time I will have to put up with beach driving.
Back out again today, different hills.

Here in Queensland the opposite has happened.Out with the heat and in with the rain.Parts of far north Qld ( This is a big state) up to 400mm(16 inches) has fallen and is heading south towards us .....South East Queensland. It has rained all night and there is plenty more to come. Just like 1974 only we could do without those floods again.14000 homes in Brisbane and Ipswich went under then.
Cheers,
John.
Flippin' 'eck it looks cold over there!!![]()
It is one thing to look forward to getting back into your warm, draught free Puma when you are out in a biting cold wind with white stuff all around but it is quite another thing to get OUT of your warm draught free Puma when you reach your starting point!
Having driven to your destination and parked up, it is those first few moments when you psych yourself up to step out of the Puma Heat to face that biting blast that is the Hard part of the trip! Anyway I,m glad I did as it is back to the rain today. Now I just have to psych myself up to get out in to the wind and rain.Always enjoy coming back to the Puma after a day out in the hills - a change of clothes and some hot food if necessary. Always enjoy the trips out, pretty tame by Aussie standards, but each day is different. Some dry, lots wet, occasional snow, sometimes very poor visibility, fox tracks, badger tracks. Yep I am easily pleased. 53 outings last year and 5 so far this year Then to cap it all there's the journey there and back in the Puma.
Just as an aside. On the Thursday trip out I miss judged the route as snow covers a lot and hides things like hollows. I went down to just above my waist in snow and naturally enough all traction was lost. Nothing for it but to remove my pack, put it in front of me, lean my chest on it and use my elbows to propel myself forward. I just repeated this action until I got to the edge of the hollow and on to better ground. Very tiring but all part of the enjoyable day out. I have it down to a fine art now.
