The road would be pretty rotten right now. Did anyone know where you were, and when you were expected back and so on?

Satphones are funny things and are still pretty hit-and-miss. I had a work one several years ago and you just about had to point it straight at the satellite! I use HF and VKS-737 but have never actually needed it.

Up here UHF is quiet most of the time, and a little busier during tourist season. I'm not sure mine is working - nobody answers!

Davo, The road from Derby to Mt Barnett is pretty good at the moment. Further on there are a few probs. with closures from the Kalumburu T/O through to KNX. The only reason I got bogged so bad this time I was being lazy and instead of making a 3 point turn I went wide and skimmed a table drain and down she went. I always inform someone where i'm headed but in this case panic stations would not have been reached for 24 hrs. Worse case scenario a helicopter would have been sent up if no one had heard from by lunch the next day. And as far as Sat phones go I would rather be without one except my wife is 8 1/2 months pregnant. I think people become too reliant on technology sometimes and forget the basics of survival or just sitting back and assessing the situation.
Now, The time I got bogged at Donkey Crossing up in your neck of the woods is a different story. A story for another time.

About the same here in the States when it comes to CB. Got into it in '72 when it was licensed. I paid government and got legal. Have not used it in 30 years!

At work we use 2 channels-one for the ambient-the other for the chilled.
Most of the time its just the shunt driver and despatch yakking away.But every now and then we get the dickhead from Coogee crapping on.:mad::censored:
As I understand it,you cannot have more than a 5kh radio unless you pay for it.
Think its time the authorities paid him another visit.

We go to ch 80 most of our radios have been reprogrammed but the nice fellow in the lower blue mountains:nazilock: will get one soon all he does is pick fights and go on and he has been visited by the RIs but less than 12 hrs he was back on ch:(

I have the capacity on mine for it to be programmed for receive only on the police UHF channel.
That and my HF scanner provides some interesting commentary :angel:

Used to have that on my work radio over here too - but the Police and other emergency services have pretty much moved to all digital now.

I leave mine on 40 all the time, but as soon as I drop over the top of the hills above Perth it gets turned off, and stays off until I'm on my way out of the place again. Like most major and all capital cities, Perth is full of complete ******* on the radio. Hell, we're even getting a few dickheads on there up in Kalgoorlie lately - but it's most noticeable when school's out. ;)
