Autism Spectrum Disorder - top resource

I haven't read any replies yet but will try and read the thread tonight.

If some of you are interested there may be a correlation between gut health and various psych 'disorders'.

The conventional establishment pooh poo it, but some on the fringes and in the alternative realm have some compelling evidence and success.

One book I have on the way ATM is by British GP Natasha Campbell-McBride named 'Gut and Psychology Syndrome' (GAPS)
She and those following her dietary advice claim great success with ADHD, ADD, Asbegers, etc.
A herbalist I know and respect says similar things.

I'm salicylate sensitive, (a naturally occurring food chemical of the Phenol group, common in most raw, natural and 'healthy' foods)
Salicylate sensitivity/intolerance is hereditary, and observing my nieces and nephews who were diagnosed by RPA Sydney's Paediatric specialist unit, all manner of behaviours ranging from ADHD, lethargy, full blown IBS symptoms and mild Asbergers become apparent with a salicylate/amine/Phenol heavy diet.

My partner was talking to a lady recently who's kids are very salicylate sensitive and also Asbergers.
In twelve months of changing their diet the Asbergers has all but disappeared in her opinion and their overall behaviour has drastically altered for the better.

I'll hopefully be talking to her some more soon.

You are dead right - the "leaky gut" blood membrane and brain membrane was recognised by a some researchers in the PBS News Hour Program that I have just been reminded to track down and post up. Things like gluten and casein are in some people not processed properly in some people. The result of this is that some chemicals leak out of the gut and enter into the blood stream. The chemicals are then circulated pass the brain membrane and have in some research quarters been attributed to the same effects as an opiate. This incidence comes under the realm of an "environmental trigger". This is a field that is getting more funding directed towards it. Also the high incidences of the uptake of a plethora of household chemicals has also been raised by some research quarters as a type of "environmental trigger".

A very "out there" perspective is that the rise in autism is the latest bump in the Darwinian Survival of the fittest. Where with a rapidly advancing computer and technology reliant society the people who are most suited to advancing this societal shift are people with autistic traits. I did say it was an out there thought so please don't shoot the messenger. Just taking things from a very different perspective. Taking this one step further - okay a lot further ... this could then imply that by trying to "cure" Autism we are effectively contributing to the demise of our own society :wasntme:
Ergo - autism is a naturally occurring phenomenon - not a disease which should be eradicated. Research is then best directed to establish strategies and techniques that identify its presence as early as possible so that early intervention can occur. This will allow the debilitating factors associated with the condition to be identified as soon as possible so that individualised multidisciplinary strategies can be developed, monitored and changed where and when they are needed. The whole purpose of this is to improve the individual with the condition's quality of life and provide their family with the support and assistance they need to be the most caring and effective parents/sibling/grandparents/aunts/uncles/friends and partners - they can possibly be. It will also allow our society to be more tolerant so our family members and friends on the spectrum and their peer supports can contribute to society and have a meaningful and hopefully happy life - one that they totally deserve.

By the way I have been identified within the Autism sphere a somewhat of a radical. So these means some of my ideas may hit people in their comfort zone. Just remember what Thumper's Father said :)

Hello All,

Each episode has transcripts and also links to extended speeches of guest contributors. It is probably one of the best unrestricted - outside of subscription only academic research publications that appear in the pubic or free domain.

Hi all. We have just spent the weekend with some friends up the farm whose son may or may not be Ashbergers. The son is now a 35 yo man who has experienced various mental health challenges.
Does anyone have a reference for a support network or service in Melbourne that I can direct these people to. Either public or private.

Hi. Just like to say thanks for the link.i found it more of an insight than the seminar I went on recently. I have four children ages 2 to 9. My third Son Sam who was 4 in march is currently being assessed. Up until November last year he was fun loving boisterous little boy while speech delayed was speaking and knew sign. On the 30th nov the only way I can describe it he woke up somebody else he lost all speech and sign, giggle and hand flap and swirling all started, he would not respond or make contact anymore. I know what you mean about the black dog it's been troubling me since my second son was born who is has server verbal dyspraxia and fine motor skill control what a fun ride that has been but four years of therapy and now let he seven has turned around. I have to control my rage as well when other parents say oh you must be special parents to have been given these children, don't get me wrong I love my kids and will doing anything for them but comments like that don't help. Sorry started to ramble on once again thanks for the link.
