Sorry to hear about the incident. OH&S stuff aside, you were spot on about the little things. Recently I had gotten fit, lost some weight, changed my whole outlook on life and starting a new job - first day. Bent over to tie my shoes, yanked a bit hard on a bad angle and BANG. I'm flat on my back with the doctor injecting pethadine (sp?) for a fortnight then on crutches for a while with the same problem that you have. So I can renovate, fix the landy, carry around the kids one in each arm etc but apparently not do up a shoe lace?
I feel for you, and I also second the comment about getting a second opinion - different surgeons, different opinions on the what, how, when and how much (to cut).
Good luck with the recovery, and bin those bloody work chairs asap.
