So Who Bought A Perentie?

IF I was going to pass a comment it would probably be something like...

"despite the complete lack of supporting **** word marketing speak options like "stall control in first low" and having to rely on good old fashioned torque off idle and a governer theres still more people in australia interested in buying a perentie than there are people in australia interested in buying a puma."

But it would feel too much like stating the obvious.

so I'll go with.

People probably want one because so far the perenties done more to support this countries defence force than the puma is ever going to. In and of itself thats good enough for me.

Now now Dave, you compulsion to Hate the Puma is alittle unfair, it is after all a Land Rover, and is it ****? just like Discovery 4, or a Range Rover sport or even a fancy evoque no its not its just another Land Rover. But is there more people buying Perenties than Pumas, well if theres 4000 Plus Perenties due to be sold of in the next 7 tears, thats 571.42 per year, now Land Rover have unfortunately sold more of the evil Puma per year than the Perentie, and will no doubt continue to do so, until that new Defender comes along in a few years time, which I will guarantee will be a winner for land rover world wide and will sell in its millions.

On the flip side the Perentie is a fantastic vehicle and i cant agree with you more, with it supporting our troops on the battle field, and I am sure it will still do so for a few more years to come. Its a Iconic vehicle and another well proven land rover product...

But you still cant beat a old series 2/3 for the charm and character.

I'm tall (6'4") and every Army 110 I have driven jammed my right leg between the door and steering wheel. Made driving real interesting!
Having said that, I'll be getting one if the prices come down to a realistic range.

Its not hard to sell more per year of something when you compare it to something that hasnt been sold.

you also need to drop that nasty habit of yours of not listening (or reading in this case) to what has been said and just running with your interpretation of whats been said.

And I wouldnt use the word evil to describe the puma, That would denote that what was done was intentional, IMHO its far worse, stereotypical indifferent incompetent laziness is the root cause of the pumas problem.

Silly argument. We have to postpone this discussion for 20 years and then see how many Pumas are still running before making any comparisons.

Good points, the gal. chassis would certainly have a long life, although I don't know if we have the same problem as GB with chassis rust, I believe salting of the roads in winter exacerbates the problem. Don't know much about the LT95, but I was speaking to the Boss at our local independant dealer when the 2012 pumas came out. He expressed concern about the 6 speed box, but in subsequent conversations with him over time, he is pleasently surprised with its relability. I will have a chat about LT95 Vs 6 speed next time I see him. [ I have a beer with his brother down the local footy club, he used to be a LR mechanic, way back when, but refuses to work on them now :p]

Their is a 5 cylinder version of the 2.2, which produces 3.2 litres, Nene Overland fitted one to a 90, [ difficult job, apparently] Nene also fitted a TDV6 to a 110, with a 5 speed auto box. Don't know much about the diffs, I will send an E-mail to Ashcroft and see what they have to say. As for the CV's, our local independent dealer bought out Maxxi and sell most of their products, a good place to start for info, I guess.

Something about the Perenties no one has mentioned, is the amount of money spent on them over the years by the Army, maintaining & servicing them. Army mechanics are highly trained, and their servicing system very thorough,are people willing to put the same money & effort in, for those vehicles to last another 30 years in the same condition. Don't get me wrong, I would love one as a second vehicle, just the thing for those remote area fishing trips. But the 2013 Puma would suit the grey Nomad lifestyle better, I suggest. [ especially with a bit of comfort for SWMBO] Bob

Most people I talk to want one because of their excellent off road capabilities, and excellent service record. They know they can take the rough stuff [ lets face it, any vehicle that survives Army drivers has to be tough. ] Perhaps not the most comfortable vehicle, and noisy, but that doesn't matter to those that want them. I remember that iconic horse, the Waler, helped the Light Horse win the War in the Middle East , WW1, did more than any Land Rover has done . Doesn't make me want to buy a horse, though. Bob

And to what end did the waler horse and the Australian Desert Corps successes help to create a better World.

Just think of where it is today, The Palestinian/Israeli situation, the situation in Damascus and throughout Syria, Egypt is likely to have another rebellion or civil war. (Remember it was the Australian Desert Corps under Harry Chauvel who liberated Damascus from the Ottoman/Turks and were then ordered out by the British General Staff so that the other pretender T.E. Lawrence and the Arab irregulars could enter Damascus from the other end.)

It seems to me that the Australian involvement was a fruitless exercise based on myth, lies and greed that only served to support illigitimate colonialism of two empires of Britan and France in their death throes drawing artificial lines in the sand while suppressing the rightful self determination of the peoples of the region.
