Yeah I thought its alot of effort gone into them, I know alot of dirt bikes get out there but also alot of 4wders apparently have been getting there lately, also over the 20 years I've been riding bikes out there I've seen a few ropes, wire and fishing line strung across tracks, I've also seen in mud pits(when they have dried out) star pickets set up on a angle aimed only for what I assume is the radiator, and its only been since farmland that backs onto the area was sold off to yuppie types who don't like people riding cause it ruins their tranquility or some rubbish more then likely, I know they have yelled and even thrown stuff at us over the years..., so I can only assume...... I doubt there are drugs or something like at as its a pretty well used area and someone would be bound to stumble across it daily/weekly, although I to have stumbled across man traps at other places I have ridden over the years I don't exactly stick to tracks when I ride, either way I went and stuck up 5 motion sensor cameras there, 3 still shots and 2 video..... So if anyone's lurking around trying this trick again then he will be seen, every possible way he tries to get there he will be seen..... I'm kind of hoping he comes over the boundary fence (as in one of the neighbours) as that would absolutely make my day/week/month!!

lot easier to make & more effective than the ones shown, so I dont think he was an experienced asshole, just a thoughtless ****ed off local wanting to stop lowlifes dumping rubbish. should not be hard to track him down - somone in that street that has a shed / and not into horses

I lived near a tiny country airstrip once. Apparently there was somebody who'd bought a place nearby . . . and then complained about all the airplanes making noise!

Maybe its all done by the land owner who has had enough of trespassers pulling down private property signs and cutting padlocks on gates let alone dumping rubbish and burning out cars, if i was somewhere looking at star pickets designed to stab radiators or motorcyclists i would be going some where else. If your car was insured would you be covered on that property?
Before i upset everyone i dont condone tyre spikes but maybe the cops arent that interested because it is private property.
Ive been in Glasshouse[state forestry] and seen plenty of unroad legal vehicles take there numberplates off on arrival so/because they can outrun the police through the rough stuff[where a standard 4wd cant go] when a blitz is on. The minority spoil it for the majority.

That's not the point though, he pulled over to let his kid out to take a leak.
Considering that any poor sod pulling over to (ironically) change a tyre, take a phone call, etc could damage their vehicle or seriously injure themselves it's a whole different ball game IMHO.
If you're having issues with people coming onto your private property then that's trespassing, and a matter for the police.

Talking to a policeman friend of mine, they can be charged with setting a man trap. Never heard of that, but he says it is taken seriously if the circumstances warrant. Bob

Repeat-I dont condone what has happened! but having read all of the above is the place worth the risk? What happens if your caught checking your cameras on some body elses private property?

I know (bar the quarry) it's all military land, the army are out there all the time and the Richmond raaf use it to practice dropping "stuff" there guessing that's how it got the name " the drop zone " and I can say for sure it's either military or crown land, it's definatly not private land, there are no gates or fences to knock or pull down, there are dirt piles and sandstone blocks from time to time, but the land I was on was definatly not private and I was only 5-7M off the road so it wasn't like I was right into it or anything.....

The way I read it:

Dan pulled onto the first section (first 10m) of a road to allow his little girl to get out to answer the call of nature (also where he put the cameras).
Dan has also gone motorbike riding where ropes,wire,fishing line and star pickets have been present.
Quite happy to be corrected but that's just how I read it.
