Falkland Islanders to vote in referendum | News.com.au
At least 30 Land Rovers were lined up to spell "YES" on a patch of land opposite Stanley that has historically been used by Royal Navy vessels to commemorate their vessels.

There's no way the Falkland Islanders would change to Argie control, has Britain got any ships left to fight down their if push comes to shove?,thier carriers were cut up for scrap last I heard. Pat
The brits have two helicopter carriers so what is the current thoughts on helicopters in air combat? Within a couple of years we will have two as well maybe someone thinks they can do the job of naval fighters![]()
Currently the uk does not have a aircraft carrier, it's a helicopter landing platform, no aircraft are carried. And when the new carriers come on line in 3/4 years time, for the first one, they will operate with no aircraft what's so ever, for another 3/4 years.
So it's going to be one hell of a in flight re fuel if they ever need to get the typhoons down there in a hurry.
Send out the Harriers, who needs an aircraft carrier .

One nuclear sub. kept their Navy in harbour, back then, The RN has a few . Garrison the Falklands with a regiment, fully equipped, plus enough transport helo's, Put a couple of the new Daring destroyers for air control, ferry down some euro fighters, and attack helicopters, not too much to worry about, I don't reckon.

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking
I always make a joke to us fellow Poms that there isn't enough cash in the UK for fueling them thar Harriers ol' mate! Besides I think they have all been sold or busted up for parts.
Wasn't the US Marine Corps interested in some of the parts at one stage?
Nevertheless there is hope! , If there is a need for a future task force, the benevolent island of Barbados has I am told by unreliable sources, promised a mothballed fleet of older Kawasaki jet skis to be at the RN's disposal!
In any case neither side seem to be up for a scrap at this stage , judging by recent editorials in the Argy news. Apparently the Navy neglected a sea cock maintenance etc and a Man o War sank at her mooring south of Buenos Aires!
