    Freelander 2

Gday Guys/Girls. Im a holden V8 driver and have seen the light "converted" and looking at buying a Freelander 2 for a family car to tow my boat and camper trailer, maybe even some light 4x4 trips. I really like the look of the landrover and its specs but I am suffering from information overload. I dont have heaps to spend and noticed I can pick up a 2008 lf si6 HSE sports auto for around the 30 mark. or is it worth getting the diesel base model not a HSE for the same price range. I do like the w ank factor of the extra gadgets. I cant find any towing info eg fuel in the forums.

Cheers Guys I hope to become a regular user of this forum if im lucky enough to buy a landrover.

    Matt/Sparky82

howdy I think the Freelanders are great vehicles. My sister has owned 2 now, the current one is still a freelander 1 i think, but is TD4 (her first one was v6) 2005 ,model.
The newer diesel one is by far a better vehicle than her previous, which was a great vehicle as well. Just this new one runs rings around the old one economy wise and its a lot better general running and driving, and towing. tows a horse float now and then.
so you could maybe go a bit older and find a diesel one with all the fancy gadgets? But if you go with the one you mention, you will still be really happy with it. They really are great little vehicles. Hers as all the goodies in it. (face lift front too)
Have you driven both of them? If not test drive them both and see what you think of both of them, if you can live without the fancy extras, or if you realyl want the fancy bits. Both are going to be a great car for you.

ive got a HQ panelvan. owned it for 12 years now i think coming up for. turned 40 this year haha so to celebrate finally going to get it back on the road with new engine and resto. i think you migh prefer the td4 over the alternative. after driving both myself it is very, very good. haha can have some fun bargaining with car dealers. though i always end up in arguements with them being a female. especially with the one i told him his $50000 car had been in a rather large accident. and he swore black and blue it hadnt. then confessed! silly man he was. good luck though, and hopefulyl all goes smoothly

I've had a FL2 TD4 SE for 5 years. Great car, I still love getting in it now for a drive. It's practical, economical, can handle rough roads, tows well and is a very safe vehicle in an accident. It has just enough luxury for me and for a 5 year old vehicle it still looks quite modern. What is impressive is the engine and auto they are really well matched. 5 years ago it was the only "soft roader" with diesel, 5 star safety, 6 speed auto that could tow 2 tonne, the BMW X3 came close but it was $70K and had no off road credentials but likely a better diesel. Only now is the competition catching up and still 400Nm from a 2.2L is still quite respectable.

The i6 is thirsty go for the diesel, I get about 750km a tank driving around Brisbane city. You should also see better resale, it's why the TD4 is worth a bit more now, there was only $2K difference between i6 and TD4 in new purchase price.

Cheers mate. From what you and the rest have told me the td4 sounds like the way to go. Now for the fun part shopping. Most of the resonable prices are interstate so it looks like its time for a road trip!

    G'day sparkey82

Yup! definately go the TD4 Freebee2, and hunt around both local and interstate, get prices, and then haggle,"but I can get it for $K from ????' and it is only ? to fly down and pick it up

I have a friend who recently bought a NEW Defender 2013 plated, for about $6K under list from the GC dealer, got to love it

    cheers
