    Would should I buy?

    My subaru forester's lease is just about to run out and I'm thinking of getting back to a landy? The question is what variant? I'm kind of keen on a L322 Diesel RR but am anxious about their problems.. So am also considering a late model Defender. In my position it would be easier for me to buy a late model Deefa with low kms and still obtain finance via a lease. I'd therefore be most likely buy through a stealer to obatin all the benefits of lease and warranty etc.

    Pluses for RR - mainly the comfort levels... Downside - maintenance costs will possibly break me.

    Pluses for Deefa - late model - still a basic coil sprung unit. Alot of repairs can be done by myslef or my knowledgable son and friends. Easier to add things like snorkels and recovery gear etc.

    Does anyone on AULRO know about this 2007 110 ? VIN SALLDHMS77A744952

    If a Defa (Puma)is in your list I would consider a 2010 model + not an early model.
    Why not a Disco 3?

    FYI - we bought a 2011 Defender 130 late last year. It only had travelled 16,500km and we saved 20K. The warranty is good until 08/14. We bought it privately and is 80% financed.

    No problems so far with the few warranty issues which have been rectified by the local dealer.

    I'm currently looking at novating a 130 hcpu, quotes are going in as I speak. It all falls back on my employer now.....but if you can afford a few dollars more a new vehicle is best to lease. Really hope to join the fraternity soon.

    OK - D3 all have airbag suspension? I'd be after a TDV6. Pros and cons?

    Some of what you say about the older L322's is correct, but don't think for a minute that they are hard to work on. Electrics aside, they are VERY well engineered and easy to work on. From the engine to the brakes, a competent home spanner spinner with a decent tool kit will have very few issues working on these.

    A lot of people get scared of working on the newer RR's but they shouldn't be...

    I'm sure the stealers and other LR mechanics are happy for this myth to be perpetuated...

    there is somewhat a large gap between a Defender and a RR. Your Suburu will somewhere in the middle concerning creature comforts, cabin noise, easy of driving. Cabin space.

    If you plan to use the Defender as a camping/touring/work truck they do the job well. As a daily driver they are OK, I use mine every day and like it. But they do have issues with tight parking, undercover parking, small streets, truck like gears and performance.

    A RR will drive quieter, easier to park, deal with small streets better and the like. Perhaps a capable tourer as well however lack options in the modification options.

    If post 07 Defender has an electrical issue outback you are joining the ranks of the Rangie. It will require some good understanding, some reading device, or a flat bed. That goes for any post 07 vehicle regardless of brand however.

    mechanical stuff would be mechanical stuff as others have mentioned. Depending on size of tool box, understanding, competence makes up how far you get on the spanners.

    Too right,I found my Td6 to be the easiest vehicle I've ever worked on and I've worked on a few,I would buy one again and rebuild the crappy GM box,the only thing wrong with them. Pat
