Out of curiosity why are you basing yourself in Kal if you are flying out of Perth?
It's official,I've now joined that most unliked group, the Australian FIFO worker. We've moved from the Pilbara to Kalgoorlie and next week I'm starting FIFO back to the Pilbara with Downers with a 2 and 1 roster,I'm going to spend some dollars on the Tdi as I'll be driving to Perth, parking her up for my swing and driving back so she'll earn her keep again,a much needed tune and I'll fix the damn transfer leak she's had for the last ten years.Anyway we'll settle in Kal for a while and I've layed down the law to Tracey, don't care about the house as long as there's a big shed, time to start a new part of our lives, again. I got asked to come to the Pilbara, babysitting a flashbutt welder, but I'm not interested in the roster......and the humidity!
I've been asked about the possibility of being flown up, just for breakdowns, to which is till being discussed
Last knock back was PNG, month on, month off, 350k p/a, I just don't think I could handle the jungle, not scared of anything but humidityit knocks me about alot, Kakadu nearly killed me at the end of the wet

I wish I was knocking back work. Going on 7 years now and counting...
I graduate at the end of 2014, after that i'll most likely be moving to Perth and joining the FIFO lifestyle as a geologist
Not scum just smart
if the big boys want to keep it's employers they need to offer them beter.
Are you working in hedland or in the mines?
There is a toung in cheek saying that we call "downers" guys and i guess you can guess what it is. I'm not going to say it coz it's not to PC
but good on you are you are sparky?
If you are scum now, chances are you were scum before.
Heaps of people do FIFO. It's not that bad and can be good for the locally economy as well. I know from experience some place have not been as busy since the 1980s.
By the way, for the electricians out there, pretty sure there is a crap load of work about to emerge for you guys, might be two years away though. (Source: when a foreign company asks you to employ 800 electricians generally implies something's on the horizon).
Regards
Andrew
