Thread: Portable Air Compressor - What to get

I got a Bushranger Max Air II on special offer at the Landy Expo and to date I've been delighted with its performance. I use it once a month to pump up the tyres after off-roading.

My mates have other brands and models but they're all very similar in terms of performance.

If you have a Defender and you go for the Exbox mod from Mulgo, the space under the driver's seat takes this compressor very nicely indeed!

I'd also give the vote for a Blue Tongue II. As Yorkie says they work continuously. We used them at work for over 3 years repairing 1-3 tyres a day with no failures (back when you could fix your own tyres ). After that I bought one for personal use and have had no complaints.

They are probably up to a mark IV now though

I have it's brother Big Red also by Thomas, as with the Blue Tongue, continuous cycle.

I've had some bushranger ones in the past and they were great - could not fault them. Even when I broke a part off they still gave me the part for nothing.

I then read that viair made them for bushranger so this last time I bought a couple of viairs plumbed into an air tank at 150psi and they have been great so far. They don't quite keep up with engine driven air, but very close.

Vote 3 for the blue tongue. It just works and works and works

Had ours for about a year now, it regularly deals with 8-12 tyres at a time (on a longer hose so we dont have to shut it down between tyres) The wife uses it for dusting off dental stuff when shes doing her work mobile from the back of the disco, as well as pumping up the pressure setting do hicky to 60psi.

Ive used it about a dozen times to inflate the shooter tank (to 110psi) before putting the still running compressor onto the tyre valve then blasting it onto the seat then letting it pump up and set the beads.

Having said what I said earlier today, I pulled the sidewinder out of the garage and fired it up to tweak to airbags find it worked for ten seconds, then the note changed and now no air coming out of it. Only 9 months old with one Kimberley Trip under its belt. Will ring Sidewinder in the morning.

+3 for Bushranger Max Air 11... The unit has taken a bashing from being thrown in the back of various vehicles and the bag has a few holes in it now, but the compressor has never missed a beat and goes like the clappers.
10/10 for solid construction and reliability.
Maybe only 9/10 for the push fit connector which is very solid but always takes me at least two tries to connect and disconnect for some reason.
10/10 for attention to detail like the heat shielding on the connector and the range of adapters and spares that come with the kit.
7/10 for the full price but I waited and got mine at a 40% off sale.

Good to see a few bush rangers....I only ever see cheapie's or ARB's up the beach
