    Question Passenger Series 3 handle

After a couple of trips out 4x4ing, the MRS struggles with the 'bumpy' nature of the Series 3, and the lack of hand holds. So I thought maybe a holey bar was in order... something similar to what Patrols have. Obviously it would have to be connected to the firewall for strength.

Has anyone made one before? maybe some photos? maybe some info how you did it? Please.....

Just reread that title... should have said Series 3 Passenger Handle... oopps

Yup! the Series 1,2,2a all had a place where on could hold on, but the S3 lacked it,(Leyland's cheap plastic dash) but it should not be too hard to fashion one "Jesus bar"

I was recently a passenger in a Lightweight (believe me, between me and the driver the word 'light' was kinda funny) and it had something similar to the rear chassis step/handle on the dash in front of me.

In the same trip, I sat in an immaculate S3 Stage 1 that had one similar but longer on the front of the lower parcel shelf - apparently his wife had a similar problem.

    Uncle Ho,

Got any idea how to go about it? other than a chunk of pipe bent and bolted to the firewall? ie more detailed ideas/suggestions/things to watch out for?

Nice... the parcel shelf would make it easy... I have rebuilt my parcel shelf (was full of rust) and Would not trust it to remain in the correct location after a few trips with people swinging off of it..... But yes this is the direction I was thinking of heading

I was thinking she must have been kinda lightweight herself... I just went out and looked at mine and I wouldn't trust it - but the owner of said vehicle is a metalworker and I suspect he may have strengthened the fitting - he has quite a few custom mods on the vehicle.

Sorry, I have a 2a an 85 Rangie and a Disco1, both the later have a grab handle, and it is along time since I had a good look at a series 3,it, may be worth having a close look at a 110 County or Defender, their dash would be similar, the 110 from memory has a grab handle above the passenger door in the roof channeling, that's the best I can do.

    cheers

On all my series vehicles (2as and S1) I have mounted a bar that goes from one side to the other, and not only is it great for the passenger but also handy in climbing in and out of the vehicles.
(Soft tops) On top of your windscreen surround is a triangular plate that reinforces the screen to the side window frame support.

Find yourself a length of 3/4 water pipe and cut it to size. Squeeze the ends flat either in a vice or with a heft knockometer (hammer).
Drill a couple of corresponding holes, bolt the bar in place and Bob's your uncle.

Out of the way, easy to reach and great for the passenger. You would be quite surprised how many times I steady myself using my left hand on the same bar when things get a bit rough.

    Regards
    Glen
