Is it me or are the only people complaining about the bar on that landcruiser wagon all from suburbia????

Take a look at the photos people, I'd say that landcruiser will spend less time in suburbia in its whole life than most suburbanites spend in the "outback" on an average annual holiday.....

I'd say people in suburbia have a right to be a bit iffy about them if they're in suburbia. Not too many cows in inner city sydney, although I'll concur that given it's location it's probably well suited.
And I was the most vocal about it and I've lived in rural areas for the past 14 years

    Sorry Muppet,
Orange is just greater western sydney...

Tuff bars have a well earned reputation for full frontal protection - end of story.
Interestingly they are aluminium in material. Weight wise would be very little in them between an ARB and a Tuff.

If you dont think they are practical chances are you dont need one.

But back on topic - I saw some other pics of the busted up cruiser ute, seems at least the passenger side blew out both upper and lower swivel pins of the swivel ball. From the pics on this forum I had guessed the actual necked down housing just inboard of the ball had let go, but instead they managed to rip out the swivel pins from the ball.

    Great effort on sand

That's assuming I live in the City of Orange, which I don't. I live on a property out of town. Lived in Tamworth before that

I'm not denying they're effective and in the case of the picture, practical. I just don't see why old mate needs one for lapping mainies.

    Agreed
Still, if you hit a wash-out at speed it's not likely to be a soft landing.

the sum total of damage over several 'roo strikes to the 2 post "Aero" Tuff alloy bar was to tear the welds on the centre section of mesh and push it back far enough to smash a driving light.... every hit was in excess of 80km/h....

In my experience, Tuff have reccomended against steel bars, the one exception was for a guy out past Winton who was hitting 'roos on a regular basis....

My latest ute has a ECB bar on it, if/when it gets damaged by a 'roo strike, I'll be paying the extra to upgrade to a Tuff bar....

Photo is of my old ute with the Tuff 2 post "Aero" bar

    Must be a NSW thing.

Not a fence up here and cows line the roads reguarly.

I've always said that buying a C/B, Spot Lights and a bull bar have saved my life.

There have been a few moments that have thanked myself for buying them.

in saying that the best protection I get is by montoring the C/B and being able to see with some lighting.
the bull bar just gives me a bit Last resort (PPE) of comfort that if somthing suprises me then ive got enough protection to save my radiator and engine to enable me to get home. not to be able to mow down anything and not have any damage at all.

    Sparks,
you might be onto something... on this side of the desert we have this thing called rain. Rain comes down from the sky and makes grass reach up to the sky.

Of the last dozen wallabies I have rumbled all have leapt out of the grader grass straight into the vehicle. During the dry, when the grass is low, even though the wallabies feed along the verges my hit rate is much much lower. I can only guess they get spooked in the grass and bounce the wrong way?

Bugger spotlights, I now have a light bar that gives great light in that first 15m in front of the vehicle so you see em coming and can be ready for the hit. Setups with big spotties and a blind spot either side of the vehicle in that first 15-20m now annoy me!

I guess its horses for courses, I dont have a tuff bar and think they look butt ugly but would never suggest to someone who needs one they shouldnt have one? Even if they only "need" it to do mainies.

Unfenced grazing country is all through the state.

I reckon I averaged at least one decent roo strike a month living in the hills east of here, plenty more smaller nudges and was dodging plenty more.
Driving home of a night required not exceeding 50km/h for the last 15km, and you would still hit them, or more correctly they would run into me.

Living much closer to town now (all of 1000 people) so hardly ever have to dodge one, it's amazing what a difference 25km makes but it shows that there's high density pockets of animals all over the place.

I was in WA a few years ago and two cars pulled into the van park with the occupants looking a little sick, especially the kids. Apparently they had just witnessed a fully loaded semi take out two camels. The scene was a blood bath as could imagine. I wonder what bar the semi had as the driver just kept on going with no damage.

When I lived near Wallacia, about 65km west of Sydney years ago, the butcher from Warragamba took out a Camel on Park Rd Wallacia in his Barina van.

Luckily it took the legs out front and centre and he lived to tell the tale as the van was flattened just behind the cab as it rolled over the top.
