from as far back as I can remember dad had slim dusty on playing every weekend till my late teens. In the late 60s to about 73 if the meat works went on strike he and his mates done what they loved most rodeo. When my sister and I learnt how to ride a horse there was only one way bare back. Like a Indian he would say hold on like hell. Funny now not back then. He always said born to late to be a drover. I think he would have been a good one. we played leave him in the long yard at his funeral . So hearing slim brings a tear to my eye .RIP dad you had big balls to ride them bulls

Mate, my Dad was the same, , he started droving at 15, down with cattle from the channel country into NSW. I have early memories of out Longreach way of Dad & the ringers, after mustering cattle, putting them in the race & just jumping on, no girth ropes. Crazy men, but top men. Anyway, put him in the long yard, Bob

I have been fortunate enough to have seen Slim (and family) in concert on several occasions, yodeling and all.
My favourite 'Slim' number being 'Diesoline Dreams', not one of his most popular for some reason and seldom played, but for me it hits the spot.

With a bit of luck this link will take you there.

Slim dusty fan 2045 here, grew up listening to him mainly because of my nan. I only saw him in concert once when i was 4 or 5. unfortunately he passed away when i was 11 so I am still discovering so much.
I do not have a favourite song as they are always changing and they are all so good.

When we were kids, there was no TV, we used to sing along to the radio. When we went with Mum & Dad to parties, after the adults had a couple of drinks, the singing started. Every one was expected to sing a song, we had a lot of fun. I wont say the good old days , because we didn't have 2 bob to rub together, but they were very happy days. Sort of miss them, most of the old ones are gone, we were living in the best of times & didn't realise it. Bob
