User name clarification - feel free to add yours.

Sorry if this thread seems a bit dumb, but there is something I need to get off my chest. Only a little thing – not earth****tering by any means…

My user name is BACICAT– yes, a bit odd, but for those that don’t know me personally, it keeps things anonymous on various forums I lurk about on.

Just for clarification – it is pronounced BAA-CHEE-CAT

    Baci– as in the Chocolate.

And cat – as in… a cat. More specifically –this cat.

Who was a Chocolate Point Burmese – hence his name Baci. He was my all-time favourite cat, and died ayear or so ago. He was alive and well when I started using his name, but it has since become a bit of a memorial for him.

As I said – a bit dumb I know, but that’s the way it is. Maybe I should use an easier to understand name, but nothing is easy about me. (take that how you want to)

I would appreciate it if I don’t get any more babicats or bilbos or similar ifyou please and I’ll try to get your names right.

If anyone else experiences the same thing with their usernames, by all means post a clarification here.

    Cheers–Bacicat (Gav).

...Who was a Chocolate Point Burmese...
Hey man my wife is a qualified cat judge...don't laugh she's judged all over the world. For the sake of accuracy, there aren't any pointed Burmese, it's just called a Chocolate Burmese and they certainly are top cats with a great temperament, we've had a few.

    ....As I said – a bit dumb I know....
Not at all, I've known some truly outstanding cats over the years. You can tell when an animal has a gentle soul. You are lucky to have met one. It's not just people we 'connect' with.

As a bit of a laugh, my wife had to judge in Brisbane some time ago and she was on the flight back with a fellow cat judge when the lady next to them asked if they were judges. She ended up telling them that she was a teddy bear judge on her way back from a show as well. A teddy bear judge? So there was a whole row of seats for people being flown Sydney to Brisbane to give ribbons to cats and teddy bears. It's a strange world. My wife has to judge in Auckland next weekend.

My name is not so hard. My last name starts with 'H' and I kept adding z's until Hotmail would accept it

No probs mate - I'm a grown man that can take it. Just wanted to clarify things so it happens less often.

I also find myself explaining it in person to other members a lot - as I said in my OP - all my fault for choosing a name like that.

    All good - Gav.

Thanks for the kind words Mike, there are a lot of people who don't understand this. Most people seem to think blokes connect with dogs more - and they are probably right, but I love my cats. (I won't make any gratuitous jokes at this point....)

I think your wife will spot that Baci was no show cat, he had good blood lines, but not quite up to scratch. Phantom - our big Blue would have been a better contender, but doesn't have the same character.

Similar for me. Sheerluck, not sheer luck. One word not two.

The reason? My surname is Holmes, so surprisingly enough my nickname my whole life has been Sherlock. Original, huh? Yes, Sherlock Holmes was my grandfather, yes I know where Dr Watson is, let's get all the crappy jokes out in the open now.

However, a friend at school had a very broad Liverpudlian accent (look it up on YouTube if you've never heard one before) always pronounced Sherlock as Sheerluck. And I have used that as a user name ever since.
