Almost...got pipped at the post due to the Graysonline preferential bidding system and a dodgy internet connection which failed at the worst possible time. Next time.

I was bidding. I was gunna get me one. I had been bidding on several earlier.
On the last day of the latest round of Perentie auctions, bidding was due to finish around 4:30pm.
In preparation, I took my laptop and wireless broadband into work. At 4:15, I got a cuppa, sat down at my desk, fired up the laptop and proceeded to open the auction site.
It was then I discovered the prepaid broadband had expired.
    NNNOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would have liked one of those Air Defence ones. They replaced the 101's as the Rapier units I think.

I must say I'm surprised that dealers are buying these things and expecting high prices for them.

There are thousands of these land Rovers that will go through over the next few years.

Maybe they are banking on the fact that few people know they are coming online and for half the cash.

I would have liked a 6x6 tray back. They were pretty cool. Bugger to park though!

If I make any coin between now and the next auctions I'm definitely in the running.

Just came across your thread and have to say yep I got a disassembled one on the cheap ($2400) back in June. A bit of work to get everything back in shape but it's all there. Mine is post deployment (Timor) rebuild and is an ex RAEME FFR.

My advice is to get into the venue and check them out if you can. Their condition varies considerable and some have nasties such as rusty firewalls (in pillars, pedal boxes, footwells, and screen seal on different ones) that you wouldn't see from the auction photos. It's pretty easy to see which ones were the RSM's pet car too. Also check out the general condition and in particular any evidence of damage or salt water emersion.

Most seem to be going for around the $8K mark now and up to $12K for the more unusual ones such as survey variants. The price will have to drop as the market saturates and around the $5K mark they'd be great value.

The fleet will be progressively retired and disposed of up to 2022 so there will be lots of opportunities to come yet.

Both the ADF and JRA kept pretty good records on these cars so there should be a way to dig out the history on the one you buy. Just remember the ARN before you peel the sticker off the windscreen. If you buy one with a blue slip it'll come with the GM120.
