Blues Song From A Member. Hope you enjoy!

Hi All, this is what I do for a living, teach guitar and perform.

The song is "Drop Down Mama" by Sleepy John Estes, from the 1930's.

The guitar is a 1931 National Duolian steel bodied resonator , the guitar equivalent of the Series 1 Land Rover.

    Hope you enjoy it.

    G'Day Peter.
Thanks for that mate, very nice work! Only thing better than a steel, is a steel and bottle neck!

Got a CD? PM details (or you might breach vendor rules)please.

I am a non-player, but considering a Donmo as a once a lifetime purchase. Too specialised as a first guitar, or just get a cheapy to learn on and change up?
    Appreciate your thoughts.
    Regards, BDave.
    Cheers, BDave.

thanks I enjoyed that the guitar sounds great its a shame that it drowns out your voice a bit I found it hard to hear you at times.

    thanks for sharing!

perhaps at the next big AULRO gathering we can get some musically talented memebers to do a few short sets

    Blues Song

Hi Dave, many thanks for the compliments, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
    I do have a C.D. with a jug/hokum band , I will PM you.

Donmo guitars are really good but I would buy a copy for about $700 first then get the $2500 Donmo if you get right into it.
Plenty of cheapies on eBay for maybe $400 to $800.

    Cheers, Peter

    Peter, Thanks for that.

    For slide and general blues, Any thoughts on choice of;
    slotted headstock
    f holes vs Slots
    cutaway body

    Thanks, Dave.
    Cheers, BDave.

Thanks for that, you make something that for me would be impossible, look so easy. That guitar must be worth a bit. BTW, whwt do you think of Keb Mo? Bob
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

    Resonator Guitar

Hi Dave, slotted headstocks were only made from 1931 to 1933 on the National guitars, solid from then on. Solid is stronger. The "slotted" cros****ch type sound holes are a tricone guitar which is a slightly different construction, the bridge sits on three small cones instead of one big one. You dont want one of those!

Look for a 14 fret, single cone guitar with a solid peghead , f holes and no cutaway if you want the original sound. My recommendation would be one made by Regal. Available in many stores in Australia and online .I think the model is an RG2.

    Resonator Guitar

Hi Bob, its also a lot of fun! The guitars are getting a bit harder to find. I have got mine (3 different Nationals) from America via eBay, they are about $3000 to $4000 each. I tell my wife its my superannuation!
Quite like Keb Mo but he's a little laid back for me. I prefer John Hammond, a bit more raw and gutsy but all blues is good.

    Cheers, Peter

Peter, is the choice of Single over tri-cone about authenticity of the sound or something else?
I had heard that the tri-cone gave a richer, rounder sound.
    Thanks, BDave.

a Donmo? what type? he makes them out of anything......I think his prices start around $1800 and then theres a wait, because he makes other instruments as well. Seeing you havent played Dave, I'd get a cheap steel resonator while you wait for you Donmo to be built. They sound fantastic tuned to open D played with a bottleneck. Wish I had one.
