MYTH - until PROVEN otherwise. You would think that with all the cameras, mobile phones, etc, that a compelling photo or video would have come to light by now showing not only the animal, but its size relative to something else. Everything that has come out as 'proof' is blury, or has nothing to relate its size to.

If there were big cats bought here during WWII, then they would have either died out, or be around in big enough numbers now that we would know about them...

Happy to be corrected by some PROOF - not a dud photo taken from 300 metres, or a shaky video of something down the track half way around the corner...

That skull looks quite large, but it has nothing there to compare it to. It could just be a bit feral cat.

As a young fella I had a job at the local golf course picking up golf balls on the driving range. Every few weeks we'd wander through the surrounding scrub looking for wayward golf balls from people who couldn't aim...

I was almost done for the day when I noticed some marks on the ground like something large had been dragged through the scrub. We followed the tracks for about 50m, at the end of the tracks there was a massive boomer. The Roo had no head, it's rib cage was torn apart and it's insides were gone. Me and my mate rolled it over and there were several large cuts on its hind quarters. Claw Marks?

Needless to say, we dropped the golf balls and ran back to the golf buggy and went home after that.

In the same area a few weeks later we also found a kangaroo carcass half way up a pine tree. How did that get up there?

There has got to be some big cats in Australia. Far too many incidents for it to be not true. There may be no evidence yet but how many crack pot religious types are there about and they have no evidence to back up their story do they...

So, if they exist, why are big cats in Australia so damn hard to find? Every other country that has them know they have them because.... You can SEE them...

Cats aren't the most stealthy things in the world, they lay around all day in the sun given half a chance, so why hasn't anyone come across one sitting around in the wild on a sunny afternoon...

Feral cats are readily spotted out and about, all over the place from the city and in the country, but not the 'big' cats...

Again, happy to be proven wrong, but there just isn't any supporting evidence.

I would have thought that any big cats would have been eaten by the Drop Bears (Thylarctos plummetus). See An Error Occurred Setting Your User Cookie for the latest on this carniverous evil twin of the cuddly Koala. Also information here Drop Bear - Australian Museum.

I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

Lots of gullible people on here...

    Cat skull:

Looks pretty similar to me - note we unfortunately have no scale to compare...

All the "big cats" shot and DNA tested in AU have been found to be ordinary F. Catus.

Dan/Scallops owns a couple of these:

..but no... they must be escaped big cats... Better tell Dan...

I believe what you say is correct Mick. Apparently it was common practice for the yanks to have mascots including Pumas and panthers at bases here during the war and released them at the end. I personally have seen an animal which I believe was a black panther in country near Starke River in FNQ. Way too big to be a feral cat. It was eating road kill on the side of a track and bolted when it saw my rover approaching. Didn't see it's head as it ran straight away from us but It was at least 2ft tall with a very long tail. I've seen some big feral cats (even shot a few) but have never seen one as big as this. 3 other witnesses were with me at the time and we all spotted it. Disappeared too quick to get a camera or rifle out. Quite possible that there could be some descendants of these wartime mascots around albeit in small numbers.
